August 15, 2017 - Pacific Coast League (PCL) - Tacoma Rainiers News Release

TACOMA, Wash. - The Tacoma Rainiers (61-61) dropped their series finale with the Reno Aces (69-53) by a final score of 8-4 on Monday night at Cheney Stadium.

Shortstop Taylor Motter led the offense, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one home run, and one RBI. His was the only multi-hit performance by a Rainiers player.

The Rainiers opened the scoring in the bottom of the first with a pair of runs. Following a pair of singles to open the frame, first baseman Daniel Vogelbach lifted a sacrifice fly to center, scoring second baseman Shawn O'Malley and securing Tacoma a 1-0 lead. Four batters later, with the bases loaded, right fielder Kyle Waldrop worked a run-scoring walk that extended the Rainiers advantage to 2-0.

A trio of RBI singles from the Aces in the top of the second, all three of which came with two outs, vaulted Reno out in front of Tacoma, 3-2.

The Aces extended their lead out to 4-2 in the top of the third on a sacrifice fly from Kristopher Negron.

Rehabbing outfielder Mitch Haniger helped cut into the Reno lead with a solo home run in the bottom the third, making the visitors edge 4-3.

Reno quickly responded in the top of the fourth, scoring a run on an RBI single off the bat of Jack Reinheimer to push their advantage back out to two runs at 5-3.

Another Tacoma solo dinger, this time from Motter, again brought the Rainiers deficit to just one run, at 5-4.

The Aces broke the game open in the top of the sixth inning, scoring three runs and pushing their lead all the way out to 8-4. Socrates Brito drew first blood with a one-out two-run single, and was followed three batters later by an RBI single from Christian Walker.

The Rainiers next head to Salt Lake for a four-game road series against the Bees beginning on Tuesday at 6:05 p.m. PT. Tacoma will throw right-hander Evan Marshall (0-0, 3.86) against Salt Lake righty Troy Scribner (10-3, 4.16).
