Fightin' Frogs Win in Walk-Off, 5-4
Everett, WA - The Everett AquaSox (17-16) defeated the Eugene Emeralds (15-18) in a nail-biting walk-off on Monday, August 28, 2017 at Everett Memorial Stadium.
The Emeralds threatened early in the first with a lead-off double by Zach Davis. David would advance to third on a sacrifice bunt by Rafael Narea. Sox starter would collect the next two outs by the way of a strikeout and a fly out to center. The Sox mirrored Eugene in the bottom half with a lead-off double by Chris Torres. Torres would come around to score by advancing to third on a Eugene Helder ground out and scoring on a ground out by Greifer Andrade.
Chris Castellanos relieved Bell in the third inning and recorded three strikeouts to keep Eugene scoreless through three innings.
David Banuelos was walked to start off the bottom of the fourth. Joe Venturino followed with a double down the left field line extending their lead, 2-0. Venturino would later score on a wild pitch by Jose Albertos to give the Sox a three-run advantage going into the fifth inning, 3-0.
Eugene would score their first run of the game after a walk, single, wild pitch and a RBI ground out by Narea, 3-1. Jhonny Bethencourt would strikeout to end the fifth with two Emeralds left on base.
The Emeralds would tie up the game in the sixth inning with a line drive single, RBI groundout and a Gustavo Polanco homerun, 3-3. Reliever Keegan Thompson struck out the side in the bottom half for the Emeralds.
The Emeralds snatched their first lead of the game in the seventh inning when Davis reached first on a Frog error. David would later score on a single by Bethencourt, 4-3.
Juan Camacho singled to center field to start a rally for the Sox in the bottom half of the eighth. Pinch-runner Aaron Stroosma found his way around the bases on three wild pitches by Luis Aquino to tie up the game, 4-4.
The Frogs went into the ninth inning only needing one run to get their first walk-off win of the season. Ronald Rosario struck out to start the inning however, the very next batter, Austin Grebeck was walked. The Emeralds would replace Aquino on the mound with Brian Glowicki. Glowicki would give up a single to Torres advancing Grebeck from first to second. The next hitter was Helder. On a 1-1 count, Helder singled a line drive hit to right field scoring Grebeck, 5-4. The walk-off win marks the Frogs first walk-off since the regular season finale against the Spokane Indians on September 5, 2016, 6-5.
