Fighters Face off in Sioux Falls

July 29, 2021 - Indoor Football League (IFL) - Frisco Fighters News Release

FRISCO, Texas - For the first time in franchise history, the Frisco Fighters (7-2) are headed to Sioux Falls, SD to take on the Storm (5-5) at 7:05 p.m. CT this Saturday, July 31.

The Fighters are ranked number two in the league and are coming off a win at home against the Northern Arizona Wranglers. The Fighters are looking to get another win on the road against the Storm.

Sioux Falls is looking to get back into the win column after falling to the Arizona Rattlers, 59-33 last weekend. In a three-way tie for sixth place in the league, the Storm are looking to secure a playoff spot. To advance to 8-2, the Fighters must execute on the road.

"All I've been saying all week is execute," said head coach Clint Dolezel. "We have to on both sides of the ball. They run a complicated offense; there's a lot of moving parts to it, so we've just got to be on the same page and see what's coming, run the game plan and what's called out there, and execute."

The Storm are led by head coach Kurtiss Riggs, who has is entering his 18th season as head coach with 11 league championships on his resume.

"11 championships is pretty impressive, so we know they're going to be well-coached," said Dolezel. "And they've got a veteran quarterback that makes their offense go on that side of it. Their defense is sound - they don't change too much, but they're very good and very aggressive on that side of the football."

Storm quarterback Lorenzo Brown has thrown 11 touchdowns, caught one touchdown pass, and ran in five touchdowns for a total of 1,040 yards on the season. The team's other offensive weapon is running back Nate Chavious, who has 19 touchdowns and 1,530 offensive yards on the season. Chavious was named the IFL's Special Teams Player of the Week in week 5 for his efforts on the kick return team.

Frisco has six former Sioux Falls players on its roster, and four of them played on the 2019 Sioux Falls championships team, including Charles Williams, Malcolm Goines, Chris Taylor, and Rob Castaneda.

The Fighters are looking to reach ten wins this season with sights on the playoffs.

"We feel like 10 wins, with the right combination of wins, gets us the first seed. And that's obviously beating Arizona, who's one game ahead of us as far as wins. Ten wins has been the goal, especially the last three-four weeks," said Dolezel.
