Fighters Add Quarterback to 2022 Roster

January 4, 2022 - Indoor Football League (IFL) - Frisco Fighters News Release

FRISCO TX - The Frisco Fighters and Head Coach Billy Back are pleased to announce the signing of quarterback TJ Edwards (University of Indianapolis) along with seven other offensive players for the 2022 season.

Edwards (6'0, 205) enters his second season in the IFL after playing last season with the Arizona Rattlers. "TJ is a stud, he's what I like to call an athletic pocket passer," stated Head Coach Billy Back. "He can spin it as good as anyone and run it as well. He will be a problem that teams don't want to see. Adding weapons like TJ at the skill positions will make for a dynamic offense. We are looking forward to seeing what he can do."

The Garland, TX native spent two seasons at Southwest Baptist before sitting out the 2018-19 season. Edwards then transferred to Indianapolis for his senior year. By the time he reached U Indy, Edwards had become one of the most experienced passers in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Accolades include the 2015 GLVC Freshman of the Year, All-GLVC honors twice and the 2016 conference Player of the Year.

The Fighters also signed the following players to the offensive side of the ball, including wide receiver Sheldon "JuJu" Augustine (Langston University) and kicker Ricky Aguayo (Florida State) :

- WR Jerminic Smith (University of Iowa)

- WR Trevor Bom (Urbana)

- WR Amechie Walker (Iowa State)

- WR Emetrious Scott (Lyon College)

- WR Zech Culbreath (Northern State)

"We're really excited to get Augustine onto the field," stated Coach Back. "Sheldon is a do it all type WR. He is a dominant kick returner, can play DB and has the ability to take over a game at any moment. He's a big play type player and looking forward to him on and off the field this season."

"Special teams are a big part of the indoor game and being able to get points from any spot on the field is important. Ricky Aguayo has played in some big-time games and has made clutch kicks his entire career, we are looking forward to seeing him knock down extra points, long FG's and the deuce on kickoffs. He is a legit weapon for us."

The Frisco Fighters kick off their 2022 season on the road against the reigning Champion Massachusetts Pirates on March 12 with a 6:05 PM kickoff.
