Danbury Sweeps Dayton, Await Opponent for Finals

By Zak McGinniss

DANBURY, CT -- The Danbury Titans, after finishing atop the FHL standings, are bound for the Commissioner's Cup Finals after completing the sweep of the Dayton Demolition in the first round. Ryan Patsch scored twice and Alex Vazzano made 29 saves in the winning effort. Special teams were critical in the game, as every Dayton goal, and two of Danbury's, would come on the power play.

Danbury would score the first goal of the game once again with Tyler Gjurich connecting on the power play, snapping a shot over the glove of Dayton's Josselin St Pierre to give the Titans an early lead. Bryan Dallaire and John Scorcia tallied the assists in Gjurich's 2nd of the post season. Jacques Lamoureux would respond for Dayton with a power play goal of his own halfway through the period, scoring the first goal of the game for Dayton in each game. A much tighter affair than last night's game, the period would end tied at one.

The Demolition would take their first and only lead of the series courtesy of Scott Kozlak's power play goal 8:26 into the period. Ryan Patsch would knot it up just over three minutes later with a nearly identical shot to his goal last night. Dean Yakura's power play goal four minutes later would give the Titans a lead they would not relinquish. The shots on goal became more skewed over the course of the period, with Danbury outshooting Dayton 23-8 in the frame.

With their backs against the wall and their season on the line, the Demolition would press things offensively looking for the equalizer. It was not to be, as Ryan Patsch's unassisted goal with nine minutes remaining would prove to be the game winner. Michael Dolman would make things interesting by scoring with 2:09 remaining and St Pierre on the bench, but a concerted defensive effort sealed the win for Danbury and punched their ticket to the Finals.

With the win, the Danbury Titans advance to the Commissioner's Cup Finals in their first season of existence. They await the winner of the Danville and Port Huron series, which began today. That series will conclude with a Game 3, if necessary, to be played on Sunday, April 10th. DiCristofaro Shines Late as Prowlers Take Game One

Andy DiCristofaro shined for the Port Huron Prowlers in game one, especially down the stretch, as Danville ended the game on a power play. DiCristofaro stopped 36 of the 38 shots he saw, and put his team halfway into the Commissioner ' s Cup Finals. Justin Alonzo had a goal and two assist in the Prowlers win. Ahmed Mahfouz had two assist in the game.

A.J. Tesoriero and Ray Tremblay both scored for Danville in the loss. Tesoriero and Justin Levac combined for 15 of Danville ' s 38 shots. Levac had one assist in the game. Matt Anthony, despite a solid night in net, will get the loss. Danville will travel to Port Huron tomorrow for game two, and then if Danville wins, game three will take place Sunday afternoon in Port Huron as well.
