Indiana Fever News Release

KEY STAT:

Seattle shot 36-of-71 (50.7 percent) from the field compared to the Fever, who shot 27-of-78 (34.6 percent) from the field. It is the ninth game this season Seattle has shot 50 percent or better.

KEY RUN:

After Indiana got within eight at 72-80 with 2:05 left in the fourth quarter, Seattle closed the game with a 12-0 run.

INDIANA NOTES:

Candice Dupree scored 14 points and grabbed a season-high 12 rebounds for her second double-double of the season and her 66th career double-double.

Dupree has scored in double-figures in 18 of 24 games this season.

Kelsey Mitchell led the Fever as she tied a season-high with 26 points. It is her fifth game this season scoring 20 or most (last 6/8 vs. Dallas).

Mitchell made three 3-point field goals to increase her season total to 58. That ties her with Maya Moore for fifth in WNBA history among rookies for a single season.

The Indiana duo of rookies Mitchell and Victoria Vivians now have a total of 104 3-point field goals. That mark is second in league history for a rookie tandem.

SEATTLE NOTES:

Breanna Stewart led the Storm with 26 points. After scoring eight points in the first half, Stewart erupted for 16 points in the third quarter alone.

It is the 19th game this season Stewart has scored 20 or more points. In 2017 she set a franchise record for 20-point games with 21. Stewart has scored 25 or more in 14 games this season including four of the last five.

Stewart added 10 rebounds for her sixth double-double of the season and 28th of her career.

Sue Bird notched her fourth double-double of the season and 27th of her career with 11 points and 11 assists. It is her fifth double-digit assist game of the season.

Bird, the WNBA all-time leader in career assists now has 2,786 assists in 501 career games.

The Storm assisted on 25 of their 36 field goals. It is the fifth time this season Seattle has tallied 25 or more assists.

Quoting Fever Head Coach Pokey Chatman:

"We got within eight points down with two minutes left (80-72, 2:05 4th Q). We didn't finish the game, we fizzled, and I'm extremely disappointed."

(On Kelsey Mitchell's ability to score in bunches)

"It speaks volumes to her gift. That is the part of her game that will always garner the most attention. But beyond that, I'm happy with the progress she has made in other facets of her game. That is a testament to her character."

Quoting the Fever's Kelsey Mitchell

(On being outscored by 21 points behind the three point line)

"I mean that's a factor. But down the stretch, we just keep putting ourselves in situations where we dig holes and have to get ourselves out of them. And regardless of the 21 points, I think if we could just cut down on digging those holes and just kind of like stay above ground for that matter, I think we would put ourselves in better positions down the stretch."

(On still showing determination at the end of the game)

"If we can just kind of stay consistent and not trading baskets to the point where we trade them and they get threes and we get twos. And next thing you know they are turning two-point plays into six-point plays. We put ourselves into difficult positions."

Quoting the Fever's Candice Dupree

(On playing around Seattle's length)

"We have the keep their length on the move. It's hard to stay in the paint and try to shoot over them. So keep your feet moving laterally, shot fake... "

(On having the game high 12 rebounds)

"The ball was just falling into my hands. I guess just going to the glass helps when you're guarding players that tend to be around the basket a little more. Makes it easier to get some of those rebounds."

(Did the ending of the game leave a bad taste in your mouth>)

"Yeah. I mean we just kind of gave up the last two minutes. Came in here after the game and Pokey (Chatman) put video up there, the last two minutes of the game. We've got to be better. We can't relax at the end. Because I think two minutes out we were down by like nine points or something like that and we lose by 20. So we can't let that happen."

Quoting Storm Head Coach Dan Hughes

"We were just solid for four quarters. You have to give Indiana credit. I thought that we could not separate from them. The score is really not indicative of how it went. You know we did a good job, I thought, of staying solid for four quarters, winning four quarters. So that gave us a chance to play with a lead most of the game."

Quoting the Storm's Natasha Howard

"We came out doing what we needed to do on both ends of the court. And it carried over from the first half to the second half and we came out with the victory."

(On the difference from the first half to the second half)

"First half, we locked down and focused on defense and getting rebounds and executing on the offensive end. In the second half, we did the same thing. We kind of like started off slow but we picked it up and finished strong."

Quoting the Storm's Breanna Stewart

"We had a tough loss verses Atlanta, Sunday. So we just wanted to bounce back and kind of end, before the All-Star break, on a good note. Just because we know everybody's got stuff going on this weekend, whether it's personal, All-Star, that type of thing. But we wanted to stay focused with this game. Indy is a dangerous team. if you let them get a head of steam, then they are going to play with you, as you can see."

(On the first and second half)

"First half we came out strong and then we kind of let things get away from us a little bit. We were a little sloppy. They closed the gap. And then third quarter we came out just being really aggressive. I wanted to kind of take things to another level, lead this team."
