EDMONTON, AB - FC Edmonton announced Tuesday that veteran defender Eddie Edward is leaving the team to attend to family matters in his home town of Ottawa, Ontario, and has been released. As per club policy, terms of the release were not disclosed.

"Obviously we are incredibly disappointed because we have lost a player that has been a mainstay of our team since I have been in charge," FC Edmonton head coach Colin Miller stated. "It is a serious family situation that Eddie and his family are dealing with. Not in any way, shape or form was this ever a football decision, it is a humanitarian decision."

The 27-year-old recently completed his fourth North American Soccer League (NASL) Spring Season with the Eddies, registering 809 minutes in nine league appearances.

"As well run as we are as a club, we also treat our players and their families with the utmost respect," Miller said. "We are very, very disappointed to lose Eddie, but we wish him and his family all the best."

Edward was a staple on the Eddies back line during his time with the club and registered a career-high 26 league appearances in 2015.

"He has been an outstanding member of the team," FC Edmonton President Tom Fath added. "Eddie has contributed so much not only to the team's achievements, but also to the team's involvement in the community. We sure will miss him. There will always be only one Eddie Edward of the Eddies!"

FC Edmonton returns to action at Clarke Field, July 10 versus Fort Lauderdale Strikers at Clarke Field. For tickets and more information, please click HERE, call 780.700.2600, or visit www.fcedmonton.com.
