FC Dallas News Release

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - FC Dallas (2-0-3) defeated the New England Revolution 1-0 tonight at Gillette Stadium on a goal scored by Jacori Hayes in the 76th minute.

FC Dallas ramped up the offensive pressure in the 13th minute, when a long ball played over the top was brought down by Cristian Colman. As the forward neared the area, he was clipped from behind by a Revolution defender but referee Hilartio Grajeda judged that there was no foul on the play.

Three minutes later, Colman was at it again. The Paraguayan came free at the top of the six-yard box and Roland Lamah found him with a lobbed pass played to the back post. Colman got good pace on his headed shot, but New England goalkeeper Andrew Farrell made a diving save to his right side to slap the chance away.

The Revolution returned fire in the 23rd minute. Teal Bunbury chipped a header backwards toward the crossbar but the looping shot was guided over the bar at the last second by FC Dallas goalkeeper Jimmy Maurer.

Victor Ulloa fought through a challenge and then sent a pass forward for Lamah in the 40th minute. The pass deflected off a Revolution defender and skipped out in front of Lamah, who was in alone on goal. FCD's leading scorer this season tried to beat Turner high to his left side with a hard shot but the goalkeeper made a diving save to keep the match level, 0-0.

Maurer answered Turner's save at the opposite end in the 43rd minute. Scott Caldwell came free inside the area and had a first-touch shot on goal but FC Dallas' goalkeeper was in perfect position to punch the shot away from goal.

After a long buildup FC Dallas got its first good look of the half when Santiago Mosquera crossed a ball into the area for Colman. The striker rose above his marker to head the ball on goal, but Turner was in position to make the save.

FC Dallas broke through in the 76th minute when a cross to the back post was half cleared by a Revolution defender. Lamah collected the loose ball, picked up his head and played a sharp pass into the feet of Jacori Hayes, who had made a cutting run towards the front post. Hayes finished off the chance with a sharp pass just inside the post to Turner's left side to put the visitors ahead 1-0.

General thoughts on the match...

It was a great performance first from a group that has been grinding since the first game and trying to get points in the moments that we thought that we deserved it. The ball didn't bounce in our way [at home]. But tonight, everything was very complete. I thought that the effort that they put on our field was great. We had great chances to score, especially in the first half. We faced a very good side. New England surprised me a lot in the beginning of this season, they are doing a lot of good things.

On Jacori Hayes...

He's growing. He made us feel very proud about what he is doing on the field the personality and the care that he has for the game and the commitment and all those things shows us that we are in the right path with him. He's not just taking advantage of that opportunity but he's showing us all that we have a great player for. He's playing a very complete game not just by that performance but he's helping us today to get three points by [scoring] the goal. It's great news to have the young boys doing their job and embracing the opportunity... making the most of it.

On the depth of his team...

Today was a good demonstration of the players that we're not playing normally. Victor [Ulloa] came out and played a great game also. Cristian [Colman], Jacori [Hayes] with the continuity that he has... Jimmy Maurer as well, he has been established with the team, so we're good. Santiago [Mosquera] has come in and is getting more and more minutes. I'm feeling good.

On Fernando Clavijo not making the trip...

I want to take this opportunity to dedicate this game to Fernando Clavijo. He stayed at home, and I know he is fighting a big battle. I know he is fighting as hard as the boys did today... so this result is for him.

On the defensive midfielders reliving the high pressure from New England...

They did a great job tactically today. It was impressive how both of them [Victor Ulloa and Jacori Hayes] were disciplined enough to control New England in the middle in the first half and keep us tied. In the second half when Carlos [Gruezo] came in, the three of them did an excellent job in finding the right places tactically and distributing the ball.

On the substitution that enabled Jacori to play higher up the field...

We put Victor with Jacori and Gruezo in a triangle to see if we can control the middle. But also, one of them whether its Carlos or Jacori could help us push forward when we got the ball.

On scoring his first MLS goal...

You know it was a very happy moment for me. I'm glad we could get the three points on the road.

On absorbing the pressure from New England at the beginning of the second half...

Oscar said it at halftime, the first 10 minutes [of the 2nd half] are huge. We battled the first 10 minutes. We kept the score 0-0. We knew we would get our chance in the second half. Once we got that one we just needed to hold the lead.

On the goal...

I saw Roland [Lamah] had the ball on the side of the area. I was just going to dart in and see what happens, if no one picked me up, I was going to be open. You know I'm glad he found me, just happy that I could put something on it and put it near post and passed the 'keeper. I'm just really happy right now.

On seizing his opportunity this season...

Yeah. I think I'm doing the most with what I've been given. I'm just going to keep competing and trying to get the same opportunities next week and just kind of stay humble. There is a lot of noise out there, but I'm trying to just do what got me here at this point and keep working each week.

On the substitution that allowed him to play more offensively...

We worked on it a little bit in training with Victor and then me and Carlos in there, just having victor there holding I knew I could have the freedom to go up a little bit further but also that formation is a little bit more defensive with three guys trying to lock down the middle. I just kind of picked and chose and tried to be smart knowing I had Victor and Carlos behind me to go forward.

FC Dallas goalkeeper Jimmy Maurer

General thoughts on the match...

We're just happy we got three points. We're really happy we got a shutout on the road in that 1-0 win. We've been working hard and we feel like we've been on the wrong side of a few results. We are really happy with the result tonight. Guys battled for 90 minutes, the guys did an awesome job in front of me so now we are just focused on the next game. We've got another home game this weekend so we'll just switch gears and get ready for that.

On the work of his defensive midfielders...

Oscar has been working a lot with us defending out of six, the back four with Vic and Jacori and Carlos, whoever is in that defensive mid spot. Today, Vic and Jacori did an amazing job. If you watch them... the amount of ground they cover... those two guys have done just an amazing job for us all season but tonight especially. They just cover so much ground and really allow us to defend in that block of six given the outside backs coverage just getting back in front of the center backs. They're doing a lot of work in there. We're asking a lot of them. They are doing a great job.
