FC Cincinnati Weekly Update: March 25, 2019
CINCINNATI - FC Cincinnati return to Nippert Stadium this Saturday to open a two-match homestand. The Orange and Blue will host the Philadelphia Union at Nippert Stadium. The match will kick off at 7:30 p.m. and will be televised on WSTR Star64, streamed live locally on FloSports and out of market on ESPN+ and carried on the radio on WDJO. In addition, the match will be accessible via audio stream on the TuneIn app and on fccincinnati.com.
FC Cincinnati (2-1-1, 7 pts.) enter the week after recording their first-ever MLS away win. Kekuta Manneh and Kenny Saief both scored a goal and added an assist as the Orange and Blue defeated the New England Revolution, 2-0, in their second consecutive shutout victory. Cincinnati could become the first expansion team to record 10 points through five matches with a win on Saturday.
The Philadelphia Union (1-2-1, 4 pts.) come into MLS Week 5 following a significant win of their own. The Union blanked Columbus Crew SC, 3-0, at Talen Energy Stadium for their first victory of the season. David Accam had a standout performance for the Union with two goals and an assist on the evening.
FC Cincinnati Record First-Ever MLS Away Win
FC Cincinnati reached another historic milestone on Sunday with a 2-0 victory against the New England Revolution ... the Orange and Blue won their first game away from Nippert Stadium as an MLS team ... Through MLS Week 4, FC Cincinnati is one of seven teams to record a road win this season
FCC Look to Set Best Five-Game Start for MLS Expansion Side
FC Cincinnati enters this Saturday's match against the Philadelphia Union with a 2-1-1 record ... With seven points through four matches, the Orange and Blue equaled the four-match point total recorded by Atlanta United FC in 2017 ... seven points through four matches is the most for an MLS expansion side since Seattle went 3-1-0 and recorded nine points through its first four matches in 2009 ... in addition, the current record for points through five matches for a first-year team is nine points, most recently set by LAFC in 2018
Lasso Makes MLS Debut
Forrest Lasso made his MLS debut in FC Cincinnati's 2-0 win against the New England Revolution ... the center back started and played 90 minutes for the Orange and Blue ... in addition, Lasso made a game-high 11 clearances, recorded three blocks and won 5-of-6 aerial duels ... the 2018 USL Defender of the Year, Lasso made 29 appearances, including 28 starts, with FC Cincinnati in his lone season with the club at the USL level
Garza, Ledesma, Saief Earn First FC Cincinnati Starts
After previously making substitute appearances, Greg Garza, Emmanuel Ledesma and Kenny Saief earned their first starts with FC Cincinnati this season ... Garza captained the side and led FC Cincinnati with four tackles and two interceptions in 90 minutes of action ... Ledesma recorded his first MLS assist, led all FC Cincinnati players with three shots and created two chances ... Saief recorded his first MLS goal, added his second assist and led all FC Cincinnati players with 69 touches
FCC Extend Shutout Streak to 265 Minutes
The Orange and Blue held their opposition without a goal for a second consecutive week ... Spencer Richey made two saves in FC Cincinnati's 2-0 shutout victory ... The last goal FC Cincinnati conceded was to Josef Martinez in the fifth minute of the March 10 match at Atlanta United FC ... 265 minutes without conceding a goal is the second-longest streak recorded in MLS this season ... D.C. United has not conceded a goal this season in 270 minutes
Manneh, Saief Record Goal, Assist Performances in Win
Kekuta Manneh and Kenny Saief both recorded a goal and an assist in FC Cincinnati's 2-0 win against New England ... Manneh led all FC Cincinnati players with three chances created and completed 18-of-20 passes in the Revs' half ... Saief has recorded a goal and has added two assists in just 94 minutes this season ... Saief's goals and assists per 90 minutes ranks sixth among all MLS players this season ... among players that have at least two goals and assists, Saief ranks second to Toronto FC's Jay Chapman who has registered two assists in 59 minutes
FC Cincinnati Post 2019 Single-Game High in Duels Won
FC Cincinnati set the 2019 MLS mark for most duels won in a match by winning 78-of-139 duels against New England ... in addition, the rate of 56 percent of duels won is the fifth-best percentage recorded by a team in MLS this season ... FC Cincinnati had success in the middle of the pitch where the two center backs, Nick Hagglund and Forrest Lasso, and the two center midfielders, Leonardo Bertone and Victor Ulloa, combined to win 30-of-38 duels
Seven Goals, Seven Goalscorers
The Orange and Blue have recorded seven goals - all from different goalscorers - through four MLS matches ... Leonardo Bertone, Allan Cruz, Mathieu Deplagne, Roland Lamah, Kekuta Manneh, Kenny Saief and Kendall Waston have all tallied for FC Cincinnati ... seven unique goalscorers is the most among all MLS teams this season
