FC Cincinnati Weekly Update: April 15, 2019
CINCINNATI - FC Cincinnati are returning to Nippert Stadium for a rare "Friday Night Football" match against Real Salt Lake on April 19. The match will kick off at 7:30 p.m. ET and will be televised locally on WSTR Star64, streamed regionally on FloFC, out of market on ESPN+ and carried on the radio on WDJO, while an audio stream will be available on the TuneIn app and fccincinnati.com.
Following Friday's match, FC Cincinnati will begin a three-match road trip which will mark the start of six of the next eight matches being contested away from Nippert Stadium.
FC Cincinnati (2-3-2, 8 pts.) enter the week after falling to LAFC at Banc of California Stadium, 2-0, on Saturday evening, while Real Salt Lake (2-4-1, 7 pts.) come into the game following a 2-1 victory over Orlando City SC to snap a four-match losing skid.
In addition to Friday's match, FC Cincinnati will have an active week around the region to help celebrate MLS WORKS Greener Goals Week of Service ahead of Earth Day on April 22.
On Monday, Nick Hagglund, Hassan Ndam and Spencer Richey will join FCC staff and supporters in partnership with Keep Cincinnati Beautiful for a clean-up project at Laurel Park & Playground and the Seven Hills Neighborhood Houses playground
On Tuesday, Forrest Lasso, Caleb Stanko, Kendall Waston will join FCC staff to work alongside People Work Cooperatively for home rehabilitation projects at select low-income family homes in the West End
On Wednesday, Jimmy McLaughlin and Victor Ulloa will visit the Carl Lindner YMCA to speak to kids about giving back in their community and to create "plarn" out of plastic bags with Shari the Bag Lady
Also on Tuesday, FCC will celebrate a construction milestone at the Mercy Health Training Center with a ceremonial beam signing event in the morning that will include club leadership, project management and Milford and Clermont County leaders.
FCC Atop MLS Stat Categories
The Orange and Blue rank highly among all MLS teams in a number of statistical categories ... according to Opta, FC Cincinnati currently lead all MLS teams in clearances (177) and interceptions (101) and rank fifth in headed clearances (69) ... in addition, FCC is currently fifth in duels won percentage at 51.89 percent ... Nick Hagglund currently ranks sixth overall in MLS in clearances (36), while Victor Ulloa and Leonardo Bertone are tied for third among all MLS players in individual interceptions with 17 apiece.
Pair of Firsts Highlight Match at LAFC
A pair of FC Cincinnati players recorded MLS firsts at LAFC: Justin Hoyte made his MLS debut, while Caleb Stanko recorded his first-ever MLS start ... Hoyte started at right back, played 90 minutes and recorded a shot on goal for the Orange and Blue ... Stanko started at central midfield and recorded a team-high six tackles in 76 minutes of match action.
Deplagne Solid in Return to Left Back
In his first appearance at left back since FCC's home opener against Portland on March 17, Mathieu Deplagne was a key contributor for the Orange and Blue's backline at LAFC on April 13 ... the defender recorded a team-high five clearances, added three interceptions and had two tackles for the Orange and Blue ... among all FCC starters, he led in passing accuracy, completing 29-of-33 passes for a success rate of 87.9 percent.
Lamah, Ulloa Earn First Substitute Appearances
Roland Lamah and Victor Ulloa earned their first substitute appearances of the 2019 season at LAFC ... both players started each of FC Cincinnati's first six matches of the season ... after exiting FCC's match against Sporting Kansas City with a leg injury, Lamah returned to the pitch when he replaced Allan Cruz in the 66th minute ... Leonardo Bertone's midfield partner for the first 431 minutes of the season, Ulloa replaced Caleb Stanko in the 77th minute.
Richey Records Career-High Five Saves
Spencer Richey recorded a career-high five saves for FCC at LAFC ... that total is the second-highest mark from an FCC goalkeeper this season as PrzemysÅaw TytoÅ recorded six saves in FC Cincinnati's season opener at Seattle on March 2 ... prior to the match at LAFC, Richey recorded three saves on three separate occasions this season - at Atlanta United (March 9), against Portland Timbers (March 17) and against Sporting Kansas City (April 7).
Mattocks Provides Spark for Orange and Blue
Darren Mattocks was active in attack for FC Cincinnati at LAFC ... the FCC forward led all FC Cincinnati players with four shots, including one shot on goal ... additionally, Mattocks created two chances, one shy of Kenny Saief's team-high three chances created.
