Fayetteville Marksmen Hockey Fights Cancer Weekend Kicks off with Paint the Ice

March 7, 2019 - SPHL (SPHL)
Fayetteville Marksmen News Release

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Hockey Fights Cancer weekend is well-underway in Fayetteville.

Last night, the Fayetteville Marksmen professional hockey club invited fans and the community out to the Crown Coliseum from 4:30 to 7:00 P.M. to paint our ice with messages of hope and inspiration, and the names of loved ones who fought and are fighting cancer of all forms.

Over a hundred fans came out and donated their $5 (to benefit St. Jude and the American Cancer Society) to be able to paint their messages alongside Marksmen players, coaches, and staff.

The turnout was an emotionally-charged success, and sends the Marksmen into their Hockey Fights Cancer weekend of games with a surge. The games this weekend are Friday (7 P.M.) and Saturday (6 P.M.) nights, as the Marksmen will skate out against Macon in purple "Marksmen Fight Cancer" jerseys featuring the names and causes that each player uniquely plays and fights for this weekend.

Proceeds from the weekend - including the jerseys to be auctioned off after Saturday's game - will go to benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and the American Cancer Society. Friday night's game will also feature 16 ounce cans of Bud Light for just $2 for of-age fans.
