Fan Choice Award Winners Announced

May 28, 2019 - National Lacrosse League (NLL) - Toronto Rock News Release

Oakville, ON - Over the past week, fans were asked to select award winners in several different categories. In addition, fans also had the chance to win some fantastic prizes including a pair of 19-20 Season Memberships!

The MVP race was one of several very close results. Toronto Rock captain Challen Rogers secured 28 percent of the vote, just edging forward Rob Hellyer with 26 percent of the vote. Rogers showed his versatility in his first year as Rock captain by contributing at both ends of the floor including some power play time in the second half of the season.

While Hellyer fell just short of capturing the fan's votes for MVP, his team-leading 36 goals were enough to convince 30 percent of the voters to select him as the Offensive Player of the Year. Tom Schreiber, who led the team in scoring with 94 points, finished as the runner up with 22 percent of the votes.

On the defensive side of the ball, Rock City recognized the warrior-like performance of defender Brad Kri. The beast of a defender collected 31 percent of the votes and led the Rock in loose balls and caused turnovers during the regular season. Rogers finished second with 23 percent of the votes.

The Rock had three rookies eligible for the Rookie of the Year Award. In the end, Brandon Slade scored an overwhelming victory with 62 percent of the votes. He scored 11 goals in his first full season as a regular in the Rock lineup.

Lastly, the fan favourite voting saw votes all over the board. In another close race, goaltender Nick Rose received 15.4 percent of the votes. Hellyer at 14.8 percent and Rogers at 14.2 percent were just behind Rose.

All fans that voted were entered to win some great prizes.
