DAYTONA BEACH, FL - Lakeland scored six runs in the second and seven runs in the eighth on Wednesday night in route to their 16-6 win at Radiology Associates Field at Jackie Robinson Ballpark. After suffering their fourth double-digit defeat of the season, Daytona has lost nine of their last twelve games.

The Flying Tigers sent ten men to the plate in the second, scored six runs, and chased RHP Andrew Jordan from the game. First, Luke Burch hit an RBI single with the bases loaded to put a run on the board. Two pitches later, Chad Sedio lined a three-run double down the right field line to make it 4-0. Daniel Pinero drove Sedio in two batters later with an RBI double to make it 5-0 and Lakeland got their sixth run when Koby Clemens scored on a wild pitch.

Austin Athmann led off the third with a double, tagged up and moved to third on an air out to right, and scored on a Burch single to run the lead to 7-0.

The lead grew to 8-0 in the fourth. Brock Deatherage hit a one-out single, moved first-to-third on a Jose Azocar single, and scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Athmann.

Daytona got on the board for the first time in their half of the fourth. Tyler Stephenson drew a five pitch walk to start the inning and moved to second on a one-out single from Courtney Hawkins. Both runner's moved up an additional 90-feet on an error by Burch in left. Stephenson scored on a Brantley Bell ground-out and Alfredo Rodriguez drove in Hawkins to cut the deficit to 8-2.

Stuart Fairchild led off the fifth with a 396 foot home run to right center field on the first pitch from LHP Eudis Idrogo to cut deficit to 8-3.

Courtney Hawkins hit a 424 foot home run with one out in the sixth to cut the deficit in half at 8-4.

Lakeland sent ten to the plate in the eighth and blew the game back open. First, Pinero drove in a run with a single to make it 9-4. A few batters later, RHP Aaron Fossas hit Jose Azocar with the bases loaded to force in a run and make it 10-4.

LHP Ty Boyles then came on and inherited the bases loaded with one-out. Athman lined a three-run double to right center field to clear the bases, and run the lead to 13-4. Zac Shepherd drove in Athmann with a 410 foot home run to center field to make it 15-4.

The Tortugas got two runs back in their half of the eighth. Bell doubled to start the inning, moved to third on a groundout and scored on a Michael Beltre single. Beltre moved first-to-third on a Fairchild double and scored on a Randy Ventura groundout.

Clemens rounded out the scoring in the ninth after hitting a solo home run to right field off John Sansone.

Idrogo (4-3) gets the win. He allowed four runs (three earned) on eight hits in 5 2/3 innings. He also walked one and struck out three. Jordan (1-6) takes the loss. He allowed six runs on four hits and five walks in 1 1/3 innings. Jordan also struckout two.

The Tortugas and Flying Tigers will wrap up their series on Thursday with a rubber match. RHP Tommy Bergjans (3-2, 3.84) will get the ball for Daytona, while RHP Matt Manning (3-3, 2.78) will toe the rubber for Lakeland.

First pitch Thursday is scheduled for 7:05 PM with coverage beginning at 6:45 PM with the Metcare Pregame Show on AM 1230, AM 1490, and FM 106.9 WSBB.

NOTES: The Tortugas are 0-4 in double-digit contests... The Tortugas fall to 0-39 when trailing after 8 innings... The Tortugas out-hit Lakeland 14 to 13... The Tortugas have lost six of their last seven meetings with Lakeland... RHP Brian Hunter struck out a career-high 7 in relief... John Sansone became the third Tortuga position player to pitch in a game, joining Shane Mardirosian and Morgan Lofstrom... Stuart Fairchild batted ninth for the first time in his career and broke out of a 3-for-31 drought by going 4-for-4, his second career 4-hit game. He last did so on 7/18/17. Fairchild also homered for the first time since 6/15 while with Dayton (A-), that home run also came against a Tigers affiliate. Fairchild was a triple shy of the cycle... Michael Beltre broke out of a 1-for-13 spell by going 2-for-4... Ibandel Isabel's 7-game home hit streak came to an end... Courtney Hawkins hit his first home run at The Jack. Hawkins finished 3-for-4, his first 3-hit game since 8/17/17 while a member of the White Sox organization.
