Round Rock Express News Release
EXPRESS NOTES: The Express play game three of a four-game series in Frisco tonight, also the third game of a season long 12-game roadtrip. The team returns home on July 26th for a four game series vs. the El Paso Diablos.
OVERHEARD IN HOUSTON: "It just so happened that everything kind of played on that. It just so happens that I live in Austin, and Round Rock is a great facility. Things just kind of played out like a storybook here." Quote from Jeff Kent on his rehab assignment in Round Rock.
EXPRESS CHARITY BOWLING EVENT: Ever wondered if any of the Express players are real athletes? No, not two- sport stars, world-record sprinters, or even bodybuilding freaks of nature. What we're talking about, is can these guys handle a real sport...BOWLING!
Yeah... that's right, BOWLING! It is time for the first Round Rock Express Charity Bowling Tournament. The tournament is planned for August 14, 2003, and we hope you plan to join in the fun. It will be a short lunchtime event (11:30 â 1:00 PM) at Interstate Lanes â right down the road from The Dell Diamond. Here is the plan; grab a few friends, leave work a little early, and spend lunch bowling with your favorite Express players. The entry fee for the tournament is $50 per person; which includes a catered lunch, T-Shirt, shoe rental, tickets to the Express game that evening vs. the Tulsa Drillers and bowling with a Round Rock Express player or coach.
For more information on the event or to register yourself or a team call (512) 238-2223 or e-mail emacias@rrexpress.com.
EXPRESS BANK OF TEXAS: The Grand Opening for The Express Bank of Texas is scheduled for this Monday, July 21st. There will be a ribbon cutting at 9:00 am with a reception to follow. The bank is located adjacent to The Dell Diamond, at 3434 Palm Valley Boulevard (HWY. 79, four miles east of IH-35).
PLAY BALL, TEXAS BASEBALL (exhibit at The Texas State History Museum): Among all sports, only baseball is known as America's "national pastime" -- and baseball holds a special place in the hearts of Texans and the history of the Lone Star State. Since the creation of the Texas League in 1888, over 100 Texas towns have hosted minor league teams, more than any other state.
This special exhibit captures the excitement of the game with artifacts like original uniforms, equipment, stadium details, mascots, memorabilia and more. Learn about native Texan baseball Hall of Famers like superstar pitcher Nolan Ryan, Rube Foster, founder of the Negro National League in 1920, and Austin's own Willie Wells, an African-American shortstop who pioneered the use of the batting helmet.
Discover ballpark innovations created in Texas, such as air-conditioned restrooms for women and the world's first domed stadium. With recreated radio broadcasts and oralhistories from current major league players and managers who got their start in the Texas League (including "Pudge" Rodriguez, Bob Brenly and Mark McLemore), this exhibit brings baseball back to its time-honored traditions.
