The Sioux City Explorers announced today that they have signed LHP Tom Lipari to an American Association contract for the 2006 season. Lipari has made Sioux City his off-season home and is currently an assistant coach for the Morningside baseball program.
Lipari was the most consistent starter for the Explorers last season and was the only starter to last the entire season with the club. On the season he posted 8 wins while taking 6 losses and held a 3.77 earned run average. He led the team in wins (8), strikeouts (90), innings pitched (138.1), and starts (21).
Tom came to the X's last season after spending three years in the Padres and Astros organizations. His best season came in 2003 with Fort Wayne of the Midwest League. In 96.1 innings of work, Lipari had a 7-6 record while posting a 2.52 earned run average. The left-hander had a 10-12 record and a 3.54 career earned run average while playing in affiliated ball.
