Elizabeth Williams Signs Multi-Year Contract Extension with Atlanta Dream
ATLANTA - Atlanta Dream center Elizabeth Williams has signed a multi-year contract extension with the franchise, Head Coach Nicki Collen announced Tuesday. Terms to the agreement were not disclosed per team policy.
"I am really thankful for the Atlanta Dream organization," Williams said. "They took a chance on me after my rookie year and I've had the chance to grow on and off the court ever since. I am really looking forward to building a great culture with this team and in doing so, help bring a championship to Atlanta."
Williams, a three-year WNBA veteran, enters her third season for the Dream. Since being acquired prior to the 2016 season in a trade with the Connecticut Sun, Williams has started all 68 regular season games and has been named the 2016 WNBA Most Improved Player and earned a reserve spot for the Eastern Conference in the 2017 WNBA All-Star game.
"We are so thrilled to sign Elizabeth Williams to a multi-year contract extension," Collen said. "Elizabeth's game has grown each year in this league and her ability to play at both ends of the floor effectively is a key to success here in Atlanta."
Standing at 6-3, Williams has been a consistent force on defense, playing 33.1 minutes per contest. She has averaged 2.2 blocks and 7.7 rebounds per game over her two seasons with the Dream. On offense, Williams has averaged 11.2 points and has grabbed 3.1 offensive boards a game.
"Elizabeth is an excellent shot blocker and rebounder at the defensive end of the floor which allows us to get into transition more quickly," Collen added. "Offensively she runs the floor so well and is a consistent threat on the offensive boards. This season we will utilize her in a lot more screening actions because her separation skills are so good."
The athletic center was drafted fourth overall by the Sun in the 2015 WNBA Draft out of Duke, where she was a four-time AP All America.
The Dream home opener is scheduled for Saturday, May 26 against the visiting Dallas Wings beginning at 6 p.m. Season, group and single-game tickets are available now. For more information, visit atlantadream.net or call 877.977.7729.
The Atlanta Dream, who is celebrating its 11th season in the WNBA in 2018, will play its home games in McCamish Pavilion on the Georgia Tech campus. Atlanta has qualified for the playoffs seven times, winning conference titles in 2013, 2011 and 2010.
