FC Edmonton News Release

Edmonton, AB (November 20, 2013) - FC Edmonton is thrilled to announce the first two signings of the 2014 season.

Canadian striker Frank Jonke has joined the club and keeper Lance Parker will backstop for another season.

"Frank gives us a big, strong target player. Someone we can build off and keep us in possession," said FCE head coach Colin Miller. "He gives us that stronger, physical presence up top, something that we've been lacking."

Jonke, a native of Pickering, Ontario, brings an attitude of perseverance and hard work in the offensive zone, with a strong ability to put up points.

He has spent the last four seasons in Finland playing for teams FF Jaro, AC Oulo, and FC Inter Turku, registering 33 goals in 110 match appearances. His last season saw him ranked as one of the best strikers in the Finnish Premier League and named to the league's Best XI.

Jonke earned his first cap with the Canadian National Team under Colin Miller against the United States in January, coming on for Dwayne De Rosario in a 0-0 draw.

The Jonke name may sound familiar to Edmonton footie fans, as Frank's younger brother John played for the Eddies in the 2011 season.

Jonke will join the squad when training camp begins in mid-February and will play his first match as an Eddie in April, pending league and CSA registration.

FC Edmonton has also reached an agreement for the 2014 season with goalkeeper Lance Parker.

"We're glad to have Lance back as never at any time did we want to lose him," Miller said about his number one goalkeeper. "He's an established goalkeeper in the league and he gives us that stability behind the best backline in the NASL. He also adds some glamour to the team photo."

Parker appeared in 20 matches for the Eddies in the 2013 season and was a big contributor to holding opponents to one of the best goals against averages in the NASL.
