
Eastern League Weekly Award Winners Announced

PORTLAND, ME - The Eastern League is pleased to announce the winners of the Eastern League Player of the Week Award and Eastern League Pitcher of the Week Award for the period of August 26th through September 2nd:
Portland Sea Dogs outfielder J.C. Linares has been selected as the Eastern League Player of the Week for the period of August 26th-September 2nd. The 28-year old hit .486 (17-for-35) with four doubles, one triple, four home runs, 13 RBI, eight runs scored and a 1.000 slugging percentage in eight games for the Sea Dogs last week. Linares, who is a native of Havana, Cuba, had at least one hit in each of the eight games he played in last week and had multiple hits in six of those games, including going 4-for-5 with a pair of doubles, one triple, two RBI and three runs scored in a 9-3 win at New Hampshire on Thursday. The 5'11", 190 lb. slugger led all Eastern League players in batting average (.486), hits (17), extra-base hits (9), total bases (35), RBI (13), slugging percentage (1.000) and OPS (1.500) last week. He also finished ranked among the weekly leaders in home runs (4-tied 1st), doubles (4-tied 2nd), on-base percentage (.500-3rd), runs scored (8-tied 5th) and triples (1-tied 5th). J.C., who batted .276 (83-for-301) with 24 doubles, eight home runs, 51 RBI and 44 runs scored in 81 games for the Sea Dogs this season, was signed by the Boston Red Sox as a non-drafted free agent on July 8, 2010.
Eduardo Rodriguez, a left-handed starting pitcher for the Bowie Baysox, has been selected as the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the period of August 26th-September 2nd. The 6'2", 200 lb. hurler started two games for the Baysox last week and had a record of 2-0 with 11 strikeouts and a 0.00 ERA. Rodriguez, who is a native of Valencia, Valenzuela, made his first appearance of the week last Monday night against the visiting Binghamton Mets and gave up just two hits while striking out five batters over eight shutout innings in Bowie's 11-0 victory. Eduardo's second appearance of the week was on Saturday night at Erie and he fired six shutout innings in a 6-1 Baysox win. He scattered five hits while striking out six batters and walking one to improve his record to 4-3 for the Baysox this season. The 20-year old tied for the league lead in ERA (0.00) and wins (2) last week. He also finished ranked among the weekly leaders in innings pitched (14.0-2nd), WHIP (0.57-5th), batting average against (.149-8th) and strikeouts (11-tied 8th). Eduardo, who entered this season rated by MLB.com as the third best prospect in the Baltimore organization, was signed by the Baltimore Orioles as a non-drafted free agent on January 22, 2010.
