The Earthquakes hit the road for a pair this week, starting with the Portland Timbers on Wednesday, Oct. 8 against at Providence Park. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. PT on Comcast SportsNet California, 1590 KLIV and 1370 KZSF. The Earthquakes will continue their road trip on Saturday, Oct. 11 against Real Salt Lake at Rio Tinto Stadium. The Earthquakes scored first, but the Portland Timbers rallied for a 2-1 win in front of a sold-out crowd at Buck Shaw Stadium. The loss eliminated San Jose from MLS Cup Playoff contention. Wondolowski gave the Earthquakes 1 -0 lead with a point-blank tap in the 57th minute. Shea Salinas found his target open at the back post with a bending cross. Wondolowski headed a shot low, but Portland goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts dove to make the block. However, Wondolowski was first to the rebound, poking his shot into the net. Portland pulled level in midway through the second half thanks to a deflected shot from Rodney Wallace. The Costa Rican international uncorked a left-footed blast from inside the box that struck Earthquakes defender Jason Hernandez, redirecting into the net. The Timbers found the game-winner two minutes later after another deflected shot. This time, Liam Ridgewell won a header on a corner kick that would have sailed well wide of the target if not for Wallace. The attempted shot drilled Wallace in the face and then found its way into the far corner to complete the winger's brace.

History of the Quakes-Portland Timbers Rivalry
The Earthquakes and Timbers rivalry dates back to when the teams played in the North American Soccer League ... The squads faced off for the first time as members of the NASL in 1975 in San Jose and the Earthquakes were victorious 2-1 with Ilija Mitic scoring both goals for the Quakes ... The Timbers evened the series with a 2-1 home victory towards the end of the '75 season ... In 1976 the teams only met once and Portland got the better of the Earthquakes in a 1-0 victory in San Jose ... The Earthquakes swept the 1977 season series with a 3-2 victory at home and 2-1 win in Portland ... The Timbers came back in 1978 and outscored the Earthquakes 8-2 in two wins on their way to the NASL National Conference Final, where they lost to the New York Cosmos ... Sam Cronin scored for the second time in as many games to lead the Earthquakes to a 1-1 draw against Real Salt Lake on Saturday, Aug. 30. San Jose broke in front in the 14th minute after a perfectly executed combination play in the 18-yard box. After a missed clearance from Kyle Beckerman, Wondolowski took the ball toward the endline and rolled a pass back to Cronin. Cronin cut the ball across his body to his left foot and tucked his shot inside the far post and past the outstretched arms of Real Salt Lake goalkeeper Nick Rimando. Real Salt Lake were awarded a penalty midway through the first half after forward Olmes Garcia went down in the box. Javier Morales tucked away the spot kick, locking the score at one apiece in the half's closing minutes. The Earthquakes' best chance to regain the lead came in the 43rd minute with an attempt from Atiba Harris. Shea Salinas' service trickled into the six-yard box to the right foot of Wondolowski. Wondolowski managed to touch it back toward Harris, whose first-time strike was narrowly cleared off the line by Rimando with a diving swipe. Thompson had a moment of magic in the 70th minute after settling a ball out of the air on the Real Salt Lake's endline. Looking over his shoulder to an oncoming cross, Thompson took the ball out of the air with a perfect touch toward goal, setting himself up for a near post strike that was corralled by Rimando.
History of the Quakes-Real Salt Lake Rivalry
Real Salt Lake joined MLS as an expansion side prior to the 2005 campaign ... The two teams played to a 2-2 draw in their first-ever meeting on April 30, 2005, at Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City, with Alejandro Moreno providing a late equalizer for San Jose ... After going 2-0-2 over their first four MLS regular-season meetings, the Quakes dropped their first league tilt to RSL, 3-1, on May 31, 2008, at Rice-Eccles ... Chris Wondolowski continues to set the standard for MLS goal scorers in October after finding the net in a 2-1 loss against Portland over the weekend. Wondolowski is first on the MLS all-time list for goals in October with 19, seven more than the next-closest, Colorado's Edson Buddle.
Djalo Returns to Action
Portuguese attacker Yannick Djalo entered Saturday's 2-1 loss against Portland in the 67th minute, his first action since suffering a strained right quad in a 1-0 win against Seattle Sounders FC on Aug. 2 at Levi's Stadium. Djalo has three goals and two assists in 14 games for the Earthquakes this season, including the game-winner at Levi's Stadium. The speedy midfielder joined San Jose on loan from SL Benfica on March 10, 2014.
Wondolowski vs. Portland
Chris Wondolowski has six goals in nine games against the Portland Timbers, three of which have come in 2014. Wondolowski scored San Jose's lone goal in a 2-1 loss over the weekend and had a brace in the team's first meeting of the season, a thrilling 3-3 affair at Providence Park on Sept. 7.
Wondolowski vs. Real Salt Lake
Chris Wondolowski has six goals and two assists in his last eight games against Real Salt Lake. Wondolowski scored San Jose's first 2014 MLS regular season goal against Real Salt Lake in a thrilling 3-3 draw on March 15. He enjoyed his best season against Real Salt Lake in 2012, tallying five goals and one assist in three games.
San Jose Looks for Consecutive Wins at Rio Tinto
The Earthquakes hope to secure their second-consecutive road win against Real Salt Lake after a 2-1 result on Sept. 21, 2013 at Rio Tinto Stadium. Steven Lenhart recorded a brace in a span of four minutes to give San Jose the victory. The Earthquakes are 2-2-2 all-time at Rio Tinto Stadium since its opening in 2009.
Cronin Tied with Doyle on All-Time Starts List
Sam Conin is one game away from passing San Jose legend and club general manager John Doyle on the Earthquakes' all-time games started list with 129. Cronin has been with San Jose since 2010 and has started in 93 of the last 95 games he's appeared in.
Busch in Historic Form
Earthquakes goalkeeper Jon Busch will be making a big contribution to his Saves for SEALs program at the end of this season. The 38-year-old veteran is on pace to top his career-high for saves in a single season (132) with a league-leading 120 through 30 games. The club record for saves in a season is 137 set by Joe Cannon in 2000. Busch's 120 saves so far this season would have led the league in 2008 and 2013.
Wondolowski Continues Hot Post-World Cup Pace
Chris Wondolowski is one of the hottest players in MLS since returning from the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. Since his homecoming after United States Men's National Team duty, Wondolowski has nine goals and four assists in 15 games. He has a goal or an assist in 10 of those 15 games.
Salinas Aims for Career Assist Mark
Shea Salinas will have a pair of opportunities this week to set a new career mark for assists in a season. The seven-year MLS veteran has eight assists this season. He leads the Earthquakes in assists since 2012 with 23, including seven in 2012 and eight in 2013. Salinas is three assists away from surpassing Eric Wynalda on the club's all-time assists list.
Busch Among League Leaders
Earthquakes goalkeeper Jon Busch is having another stellar season for San Jose. He leads the league with 120 saves and is fifth in saves percentage among goalkeepers with at least 10 starts at 72 percent.
Bernardez Called to Honduras Duty
Earthquakes defender Victor Bernardez has been called to Honduras national team duty ahead of friendlies against the United States and Mexico. Bernardez, 32, has 78 career caps with Los Catrachos. He was a part of Honduras' FIFA World Cup squads in 2010 and 2014. Bernardez is in his third year with the Earthquakes. He signed with the club on Dec. 28, 2011 following a three-year stint with Belgian giants RSC Anderlecht. He has five goals and three assists in 72 regular season appearances with the Quakes and was a 2012 MLS Best-XI selection. Los Catrachos will face Mexico on Thursday, Oct. 9 at Victor Manuel Reyna Stadium in Chiapas, Mexico and the United States on Tuesday, Oct. 14 at FAU Stadium in Boca Raton, Fla. (5 p.m. PT / ESPN, WatchESPN, UniMas).
Earthquakes Partner with Ovations Food Services
The Earthquakes have signed a partnership with Ovations Food Services for the team's new stadium that will open in 2015. Ovations Food Services is a nationally recognized food and beverage service provider to over 140 public assembly facilities across North America and a subsidiary of the sports and entertainment firm Comcast-Spectacor. Ovations Food Services is known for their Everything's Fresh ¢ philosophy, which ensures fans access to fresh, made-to order cuisine prepared with high quality ingredients. The Earthquakes new stadium features numerous concessions locations throughout the grounds, including the largest outdoor bar in North America, a stand with over 40 varieties of beer on tap and a barbecue stand that will have onsite grills. Most of the locations are framed with reclaimed redwood to create a first class food experience. The concessions menu will include a variety of food options, including traditional stadium faire as well as innovative items that represent the local food culture. Additionally, as part of the partnership, the stadium will still feature a wide variety of gourmet food trucks that will be located in the Epicenter Fan Zone.
Now Accepting Wells Fargo Goals for Education Grant Requests
The Earthquakes are now accepting grant applications from local youth sports organizations for the 2014 Wells Fargo Goals for Education program. Interested groups should complete the club's online application at www.sjearthquakes.com/goalsforeducation before Friday, Oct. 31. Since the beginning of the Earthquakes' 2011 season, Wells Fargo has donated $250 for each goal scored by the team. In three years, the program has raised $38,500 in addition to the over $8,000 guaranteed so far from the club's 2014 campaign. Grant applications are evaluated based on three key areas: overall impact of the grant, clarity of how the funds would be used and socioeconomic need. To be considered, the organization must also be from the Bay Area. Each grant recipient will be honored at a ceremony at the Earthquakes' new stadium prior to the start of the 2015 season.
#MilestoEpicenter Goes Global
Earthquakes fans around the world will soon be able to gauge their distance to the Epicenter of soccer after the club announced an expansion of its #MilestoEpicenter campaign. Billboards will be placed in a number of locations depicting the distance to San Jose's new stadium, including: multiple places around the Bay Area, New England, Seattle, Portland, Los Angeles, Route 66, New York City, Miami and Las Vegas. The international boards include Mexico, Brazil, London, Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador and other locations around Europe.
Earthquakes to Host C.D.S. Vida in International Friendly
The Earthquakes will host C.D.S. Vida of Honduras on Tuesday, Oct. 14 at Buck Shaw Stadium (7:30 p.m. PT) in an international friendly. Tickets are on sale at sjearthquakes.com, Tickets.com or by calling 1-800-225-2277. Groups of 10 or more should call the club's front office at 408-556-7700 to inquire about group rates. Vida is based in La Ceiba, Honduras - hometown of Earthquakes center back and Honduran World Cup veteran Victor Bernardez. The three-year MLS veteran began his career with Vida in 2003. Vida are eighth in the Honduran first division through seven matches in the 2014-15 Apertura. Their club won the Honduran league in 1981, 1983 and finished second in 1984 and 1985. The Earthquakes have a historical connection to the match. It was the Honduran Olympic squad that played the first international friendly at Buck Shaw Stadium on July 15, 2008. The Earthquakes were playing their first season at Buck Shaw Stadium after returning to MLS earlier that year. The club is now celebrating its final season at Buck Shaw before moving into their new stadium in 2015.
Enter to Win #MilestoEpicenter
In addition to the billboard campaign, fans have a chance to win 2015 Earthquakes season tickets through the #MilestoEpicenter contest. To enter for a chance to win the grand prize of two 2015 Earthquakes season tickets, fans can either pick up a "Miles to the Epicenter" sign at the Quakes Front Office or download and print a paper one from the team's official website at sjearthquakes.com. Using the sign, fans can then write their distance from the Quakes New Stadium on the sign and take a photo of themselves with the sign. To enter the contest, fans have the option of emailing the photo to milestoepicenter@sjearthquakes.com or uploading the photo through the club website, sjearthquakes.com. All of the photos will then be displayed at sjearthquakes.com and the team's official Facebook page, facebook.com/sanjoseearthquakes. Fans can then share their submission with the hashtag #milestoepicenter and vote for their favorite photo. The photo that receives the most votes will win a pair of 2015 Earthquakes season tickets. The contest will run through the end of the 2014 MLS regular season on Sunday, Oct. 26.

Earthquakes U-14 Academy
The Earthquakes U-14s improved to 5-0-0 to start their 2014-15 campaign with a 2-1 win over Santa Cruz Breakers Academy Saturday, Oct. 4 at Cabrillo College. Mario Rocha notched San Jose's only two goals in the first half ahead of next weekend's matchup on Saturday, Oct. 11 against Marin FC Alliance at Marin Academy.
Earthquakes U-16 Academy
The Earthquakes U-16's improved to 3-1-1 with a commanding 8-0 win against Santa Cruz Breakers Academy Saturday, Oct. 4 at Cabrillo College. San Jose's Kaya Fabbretti and Rhys Pak tallied twice apiece to lead the club's scoring outburst. The Earthquakes are second in the Northwest Division of the Western Conference behind Vancouver Whitecaps FC. San Jose's next match is Saturday, Oct. 18 against San Juan Soccer Club at Mustang Soccer Complex.
Earthquakes U-18 Academy
The Earthquakes U-18's remained undefeated in the 2014-15 campaign with a 2-1 win against Santa Cruz Breakers Academy on Saturday, Oct. 4 at Cabrillo College. San Jose's Ivan Valencia broke the game's scoring deadlock in the seventh minute. After Santa Cruz leveled the score in the 25th minute, Michael Anderson gave San Jose the go-ahead goal just a minute later. The Earthquakes are 4-0-0 and second in the Northwest Division in the Western Conference behind Vancouver Whitecaps FC. San Jose's next match is Saturday, Oct. 18 against San Juan Soccer Club at Mustang Soccer Complex.
