Charlotte Eagles News Release

(Charlotte, NC) Charlotte fought tooth and nail with the Milwaukee Rampage Monday night at Transamerica Field, but neither team could deliver the knockout punch in a 1-1 overtime tie. Both teams gained a point for their efforts on a hot and steamy night playing 90 minutes of regulation and two, 10-minute sudden death overtime sessions.

"I'm happy to get the tie," quoted Eagles Head Coach Mark Steffens. "We dominated the first half and they took it to us in the second half. "We had our chances to win the game and so did they. "We fought hard and to get a point against a quality team like Milwaukee that's 9-1-2 in their last 12 games, I'll take it." There were 40 total shots taken in the game, with the Rampage outshooting the Eagles 22-18.

The Eagles' struck first in the 31st minute as Dustin Swinehart flicked a perfect header to Rob Mouw on the left side just inside the 18. Mouw then blasted a shot right past Milwaukee keeper Dan Popik into the bottom right corner of the net for a 1-0 Charlotte lead. After being outshot by the Eagles 10-3 in the first half, the Rampage came out with a vengeance in the second half. Their pressure finally produced a goal in the 61st minute as defender Jeremy Aldrich somehow got a ball just inside the post by both Charlotte defender Jeremy Sorzano and keeper Richard Goddard to tie the match at 1-1. Neither team could break the tie in regulation or overtime. Milwaukee outshot Charlotte 14-5 in the second half, and 5-3 in the two overtime periods.

The tie moves the Eagles record to 6-8-2 for 29 points, while the Rampage move to 10-3-2 for 45 points. Charlotte will next host the Pittsburgh Riverhounds Saturday night at Transamerica Field with kickoff set for 8:00 pm. The Lady Eagles will host the Jacksonville Jade at 5:30 pm Saturday prior to the Eagles / Pittsburgh match.
