
Ducks Win 6-4 Over Patriots

DUCKS WIN 6-4 OVER PATRIOTS IN RAIN SHORTENED GAME
Bridgewater, NJ - The Long Island Ducks defeated the Somerset Patriots 6-4 in a rain shortened game that lasted into the sixth inning in front of 6,961 fans at TD Bank Ballpark on Friday evening.
The Patriots took an early lead in the bottom of the first inning after center fielder Sean Smith singled and stole second base. Designated hitter Josh Pressley then reached on a single. Second baseman Matt Hagen followed with an RBI double to plate Smith and third baseman Jeff Nettles singled to score Pressley. Hagen would score on a sacrifice fly by first baseman Teuris Olivares for a 3-0 lead.
Long Island answered with four runs to take a 4-3 lead in the top of the second inning. Third baseman Kyle Reynolds singled, catcher Luis Taveras reached on a fielder's choice, and center fielder Johnny Hernandez followed with an RBI double to plate Reynolds. Second baseman Ray Navarrete then hit a three-run home run (14) to center field.
Somerset tied up the game with a run in the bottom of the second. Smith singled and scored on an RBI single by Pressley to make the score 4-4.
The Ducks regained the lead with two runs in the top of the third inning. Left fielder George Lombard singled and scored on a two-run home run by first baseman Victor Rodriguez (4) for the 6-4 lead.
Ducks starter Troy Cate (6-2) picked up the win, allowing four earned on six hits and five strikeouts in five innings pitched. Patriots starter Jim Magrane (9-3) suffered the loss, allowing six earned runs on 12 hits in six innings pitched.
The 2009 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue at home on Saturday night with a 7:05 pm game against Gary Carter and the Long Island Ducks.
