(Central Islip, N.Y., May 23, 2008) - The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Bridgeport Bluefish on Friday 14-9 before a sellout crowd of 6,047 at Citibank Park.

The Fish jumped out to an early lead by scoring six unearned runs in the first inning. The Ducks got two back in the bottom of the inning, but Bridgeport plated three in the second and four in the fifth to pull away. The Ducks had the tying run on deck in the ninth, but a hard hit ball by Alex Sanchez went right to the second baseman for a game-ending double play.

Sanchez continued his hot start with the Ducks with a 4-for-6 night, highlighted by his second home run in as many nights. Sanchez also drove in two runs and scored three times. Estee Harris had three hits and two RBI for Long Island. The Bluefish were paced by leadoff man Henry Mateo, who went 2-for-5 with a homer and two RBI, and catcher Brian Munhall's 3-for-4, four RBI performance.

Rafael Bergstrom (1-1) turned in a win with five and two-thirds innings, allowing nine runs on 13 hits. Kevin Mannix (0-1) was dealt the loss with an inning and one-third of work.

The Ducks continue their seven-game homestand on Saturday with the second game of a three-game series against Bridgeport. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m., and the Citibank Park gates open at 6:05 p.m. Following the game, fans will be treated to a Grucci Fireworks Extravaganza, presented by Getty.
