Dubuque Guts out 4-3 Win over Chicago
The Dubuque Fighting Saints closed out their weekend on a high note as they defeated the Chicago Steel 4-3 on Sunday afternoon. Ian Pierce scored the game winner with eight minutes left. Dubuque managed three points on the weekend and beat the top team in the USHL for a second time this season.
Ryan Ufko scored late in the overtime period and Chicago beat Dubuque 3-2 in a crazy 3 on 3 OT period. The Saints and Steel were deadlocked for most of the game and offense was at a premium in the Saturday night showdown. The Saints have points in two of three this season against Chicago.
-Dubuque manufactured one of their best periods of hockey this season in the first as they controlled all three zones to near perfection. The Saints left the first period with a 2-0 lead.
-Robert Cronin kicked things off with his 11th goal of the season. Cronin picked the far corner on a 2 on 1 to put the Saints up with less than five minutes elapsed in the first period.
-Tristan Lemyre doubled the lead on a crazy sequence. Lemyre finished on the backhand on a breakaway as he beat Nick Haas. Moments earlier, Lukas Parik shutdown Matt Coronato on a breakaway for Chicago.
-Dubuque killed off Chicago's first power play of the second period as they limited the Steel to just one shot. Though Dubuque's PK has struggled this season, over the weekend in Chicago they looked like a dominant unit.
-Chicago was able to get into the game quickly with two goals in 47 seconds around the midway mark of period two. First it was Dylan Robbins with his first USHL goal and following that Dawson Pasternak scored his fifth of the season.
-Dubuque was once again able to supply an answer as Andre Buyalsky scored his third goal of the weekend. Buyalsky tallied in each game this weekend and now has six goals on the season. His goal this afternoon was likely his best of the three.
-Chicago tie the game on the power play, their fourth PP opportunity of the weekend. Matt Coronato would not be denied as he grabbed his 24th of the season.
-Dubuque is back in action on Friday against Green Bay.
