Dubuque Extends Win Streak to Six with 4-2 Win over Green Bay

February 14, 2020 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release

The Dubuque Fighting Saints won their sixth straight overall and seventh straight at home as two third period goals were enough to get past Green Bay, 4-2. Riese Gaber scored his 50th career goal, Ty Jackson notched his 50 th point of the season and the Saints have their longest home winning streak since the 2014-15 season. With the win, Dubuque is now 3-0 against Green Bay and has locked up the season series.

-Gaber started the game with a bang, crashing the net and slotting his 50th goal of his USHL career. Gaber becomes just the third Fighting Saint in the Tier-1 era to hit 50 goals in a career.

-The Saints led after two and scored early in the third period to extend their lead to two. Jimmy Glynn received a great feed from Mark Cheremeta to give Dubuque a lead they wouldn't relinquish. The game stood as the game winner and Glynn picked up his fourth tally since returning from injury.

-It was another night in which Erik Portillo wasn't too busy in net but made a few key saves. The Saints net minder recorded his 18th win of the season and is now just two away from the league leader.

-Green Bay battled and kept things close until the bitter end as the Gamblers answered each Dubuque goal with one less than two minutes after. That ended after the Glynn tally, but the Gamblers pressure in the offensive zone created good chances late.

-The six-game winning streak matches the longest of the season for Dubuque. They started the season on a six-game winning streak before falling in overtime to Team USA. Their seven-game home winning streak is their longest since an eight-game streak that spanned from December 27th 2014 through February 20th 2015.

-The Fighting Saints are now 14 points ahead of third place Team USA and have essentially created an insurmountable lead for the first-round bye in the Eastern Conference. The top two seeds get a bye and Dubuque and Chicago seem locked in.

-Tommy Middleton extended his point streak to four games with an assist. Though his goal streak was snapped at three in a row, Middleton still got a few good chances and notched his fourth assist of the year.

-Dubuque is back on the road tomorrow against the Gamblers to end their season series. Green Bay will look to salvage a win in the series while Dubuque will look for the sweep. The Saints won the first meeting in Green Bay 3-2.
