July 22, 2013 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Greenville Drive News Release

The Greenville Drive (15-14, 37-61) have struggled with the Lexington Legends (20-9, 53-44) all season long, and that trend continued on Monday night at Fluor Field, as the Legends cruised to a 7-3 victory. After sweeping a doubleheader in their first meeting this season, the Drive have now dropped their last 12 games to Lexington.

The Legends struck first in the top of the first against Drive starter Cody Kukuk (4-9) when Bubba Starling lofted a sacrifice fly to right field to score Terrance Gore, who drew a leadoff walk. They added two more runs in the third on a bases-loaded walk and a wild pitch.

Kukuk labored on the mound, throwing 88 pitches in just four innings while allowing four hits, three runs and three walks, although he did strike out four.

The Drive got on the board in the bottom of the third. Keaton Briscoe led off with a single to right and later scored when Reed Gragnani laced his own single to right.

That was the only damage done against Legends starter Christian Binford (6-4). He gave up five hits and the lone run while walking one and punching out five.

Bubba Starling picked up an RBI for the Legends in the fifth on a fielder's choice.

The Legends added three more runs for good measure in the eighth inning with Austin Maddox on the mound for the Drive. Cam Gallagher hit a one-out single, and Fred Ford singled two batters later. Jin-Ho Shin followed with a double off the wall to plate Gallagher, and Ford came in to score when the throw from left field bounced toward the Lexington dugout. Kenny Diekroeger got in on the action as well with an RBI single through the right side.

Gallagher and Raul Mondesi each collected two hits for Lexington. Gragnani brought home two runs for Greenville in the bottom of the ninth with a single and finished 2-4 with three RBIs on the evening.

The series finale on Tuesday begins at a special start time of 11:05 AM, as Fluor Field is home to summer camps around the Upstate area. Also, the Drive will host the "Long Ball Lunch", where fans can receive a ticket to the game along with a buffet lunch of hot dogs, hamburgers and more for just $10. RHP Justin Haley (5-8, 3.89) will take the mound for the Drive, who hope to avoid the sweep. LHP Crawford Simmons (1-1, 3.66) gets the start for the Legends.
