Prince Albert, SK- Prince Albert Raiders centre Leon Draisaitl was selected 3rd overall by the Edmonton Oilers at the 2014 National Hockey League Entry Draft in Philadelphia.

Draisaitl becomes the first player in Raider history to be drafted 3rd overall and just the third Raider to be picked in the top 5 (Mike Modano, 1st overall in 1988 and Chris Phillips, 1st overall in 1996). This marks the third time in four years that the Raiders have had a player selected in the first round of the NHL Entry Draft (Josh Morrissey 13th overall in 2013, Mark McNeill 18th over=C2 - all in 2011).

The 6'1, 209-pound centre recorded 38 goals and 67 assists for 105 points in the 2013-14 season with 24 penalty minutes and a plus 7 rating.

The native of Cologne, Germany has spent two seasons in the Western Hockey League with the Prince Albert Raiders and has represented his country at the IIHF World Championship in 2014 as well as the World Junior Hockey Championship in 2013 and 2014.

The NHL Draft continues tomorrow with rounds 2 through 7.
