Dayton Dragons News Release

Fort Wayne, Ind.-The Fort Wayne TinCaps jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning and added four runs in the sixth on the way to an 8-2 victory over the Dayton Dragons on Saturday afternoon. The Dayton loss snapped their nine-game winning streak, their longest since 2007 and tied for third longest in franchise history. The Dragons lost for the first time since April 6.

Fort Wayne starting pitcher Osvaldo Fernandez allowed just one run over five innings as he scattered five hits and withstood the Dragons comeback efforts to earn the win.

The Dragons briefly pulled to within two at 3-1 with a run in the top of the fifth, but Fort Wayne responded with a run in the bottom of the same inning and then broke the game open with four runs in the sixth to lead 8-1.

The Dragons finished with nine hits including two each for Hendrik Clementina, Narciso Crook, Jeter Downs, and Montrell Marshall. Downs drove in the first Dayton run with a two-out single in the fifth, and Marshall added a run-scoring double in the eighth. Clementina's two hits raised his batting average for the year to .483. Stuart Fairchild had a single to extend his hitting streak to eight straight games.

Dragons starting pitcher Tyler Mondile (0-2) was charged with the loss. He allowed a first inning three-run home run to Fort Wayne's Tirso Ornelas, then settled down with three straight scoreless innings before being charged with one run in the fifth. Mondile worked four and one third innings, allowing six hits and four runs with two walks and six strikeouts. Dauri Moreta made his first appearance of 2018 after missing time with an injury. Moreta surrendered four runs on four hits in an inning and two-thirds. Luis Alexis worked the final two innings for Dayton, allowing no runs on one hit with a walk and three strikeouts.

The loss dropped the Dragons record to 9-4. They are in second place, one game behind the West Michigan Whitecaps in the Midwest League East Division.

Notes: While the Dragons winning streak ended at nine on Saturday, four short of the club record, their home winning streak remains alive at eight. The record for consecutive home wins is 10, in 2008. The next Dragons home game is Friday, April 27 against Fort Wayne.
