Dayton Dragons News Release

Eastlake, Ohio-Zach Vincej's run-scoring triple broke a 2-2 tie in the 11th inning and the Dayton Dragons went on to a 7-2 victory over the Lake County Captains on Thursday night. The win allowed the Dragons to salvage a victory in the three-game series and improve to 4-9. Lake County fell to 4-8.

The Dragons winning rally in the 11th began when Beau Amaral walked with one out. Vincej followed with a triple to the right field corner that scored Amaral and gave Dayton a 3-2 lead. Vincej scored on a wild pitch to make it 4-2. Jesse Winker restarted the rally with a walk and went to second on a single to left by Seth Mejias-Brean. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch and scored on Jeff Gelalich's single to right to make it 6-2. Three batters later, Tanner Rahier singled to right to bring in another run and close out the scoring.

The Dragons took a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning. Zach Vincej lined a double to the left field corner to start the inning and went to third on Jesse Winker's ground out. Seth Mejias-Brean lined out to second for the second out. Jeff Gelalich walked and stole second. Junior Arias then hit a slow roller at shortstop that was charged by Erik Gonzalez who then threw wildly to first as two runs scored. Arias was given credit for an infield single and an RBI and the second run scored as a result of the error.

Lake County's Logan Vick homered to lead off the bottom of the fourth, and Leonardo Castillo delivered an RBI double with two outs in that inning to tie the game at 2-2. Neither team could score again until the 11th.

The Dragons finished with 10 hits. Vincej and Gelalich each collected three. Gelalich extended his hitting streak to six straight games.

Dragons starting pitcher Drew Cisco struck out 12 Lake County batters over six innings, the highest strikeout total for a Dayton pitcher since 2011. Cisco allowed two runs on five hits and walked no one. Wes Mugarian replaced Cisco to start the seven and worked three scoreless innings, allowing one hit with one walk and four strikeouts. Alejandro Chacin (1-0) worked two scoreless innings to earn the win, allowing one hit with three strikeouts.

The Dragons return to Dayton to open a three-game series at Fifth Third Field against the Bowling Green Hot Rods on Friday at 7:00 p.m. Sal Romano (1-1, 2.31) will start for Dayton against Bowling Green's Sean Bierman (2-0, 0.00). The series continues with game two on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. in a game that will be televised on WHIO Digital 7.2 (Time Warner Cable channels 23 and 372; MiLB.com). The series finale is Sunday at 2:00 p.m. All Dragons games can be heard on WONE Radio (980 AM) and via the internet at daytondragons.com and wone.com.

Notes: Dragons pitchers combined to strike out 19 Lake County batters, one short of the club record.
