Today's Game: The Dayton Dragons (affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds) meet the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers) in the second game of a three-game series.

Season Series/Current Series to Date: Wisconsin 1, Dayton 0.

Recent Performances: The Dragons have lost two straight after winning the previous three. They are 12-10 since opening the second half by losing their first four games. Wisconsin has won four of their last five games. They are 4-3 vs. the East Division in the second half.

Last Game: Wednesday: Wisconsin 6, Dayton 4. The Timber Rattlers build an early 5-1 lead over the first three innings and held off a late Dayton comeback bid. The Dragons trailed 6-1 going to the eighth inning but scored three in the eighth and had the tying run at the plate with no one out, but they could not get the big hit. Hendrik Clementina led the eight-hit Dayton attack, going 2 for 4 with a home run.

Playoff Chase: The Dragons must finish in the top two among eligible teams in the East Division in the Second Half (six teams competing; Bowling Green and Lansing ineligible). The Dragons are currently tied for the #3 position in the playoff chase, one game out of the wildcard slot. Five of the six competing teams are within one game in the second half standings.

2018 Team Notes

The Dragons 3.57 ERA in the month of July is considerably better than the MWL average for the full season (3.89), but in an indication that July has been a good month for pitchers throughout the league, the Dragons July ERA ranks tied for ninth among the 16 MWL teams. The Dragons were second in July ERA prior to allowing 12 earned runs on Monday night.

The Dragons have allowed three runs or less in 14 of their 26 second half games. Their second half ERA is 3.87 (5.31 in the first half).

The Dragons are batting just .236 in July, tied for 12th in the league. They are tied for last (with Lansing) in home runs in July with five.

The Dragons have committed just 25 errors in their last 37 games (including six in one game on July 12).

2018 Individual Notes

Packy Naughton over his last four starts: 27 IP, 17 H, 2 R, 3 BB, 20 SO, 0.67 ERA.

Hunter Greene over his last nine starts: 46.1 IP, 35 H, 15 R, 14 ER, 10 BB, 54 SO, 2.72 ERA. Greene has made 16 starts. His ERA in his first seven starts was 10.06. Greene was selected as the Cincinnati Reds Minor League Co-Pitcher of the Month for June.

Lorenzo Cedrola, acquired July 4th in a trade with Boston, is batting .400 over his last nine games, going 14 for 35.

Andy Sugilio has hit safely in six straight games, going 11 for 27, .407. He is batting .290 in July to rank second on the team behind Cedrola's .326.
