Doyle seven scoreless, but Sea Dogs fall 3-0 in Altoona

(Altoona, PA) - For the second straight night, Altoona's Mel Rojas Jr. delivered the game-winning hit with two outs, as the Curve (57-65) beat the Portland Sea Dogs (58-65) 2-0 on Thursday night at Peoples Natural Gas Field. The 'Dogs had just three hits and dropped two of three in the series.
Right-hander David Bromberg (6-9) fired eight scoreless frames on two hits, one walk and seven strikeouts to beat Portland for the first time in two starts this year. Bromberg was hitless for 5.1 innings until Shannon Wilkerson's double in the sixth. Ryan Dent had a one-out single in the eighth.
Kenn Kasperek earned his first save of the season, inducing a double play to end the game.
RHP Pete Ruiz (2-3) pitched the eighth, but suffered his third loss of the season. Alex Dickerson began the rally with a one-out double and advanced to third on a single by Howard. Ruiz got Charlie Cutler on a pop up, but Rojas Jr. nailed a two-run triple. Last night, Rojas delivered a walk-off RBI single in the 12th with two outs.
RHP Terry Doyle was very impressive for the Sea Dogs, tossing seven scoreless on six hits, three walks and three strikeouts. Doyle worked out of two, second and third one-out jams in the second and third innings.
Portland dropped four of six to the Curve this season, and has lost 13 of 19 during a 22-game stretch against the Western Division.

The Sea Dogs open up a three-game series with the Harrisburg Senators (Nationals affiliate) on Friday night at Metro Bank Park. LHP Henry Owens (1-0, 1.80) makes his third Double-A start for Portland. The Senators counter with RHP A.J. Cole (3-0, 1.73).
