It wasnÂ’t too long ago that the Tennessee Fury was 3-9 and looking up at the rest of the teams in the NWBL. With the victory over the Houston Stealth this afternoon, 70-71 the Fury is now 6-9. The Fury was led by Marie Ferdinand who dropped in 23. Becky Hammon also chipped in with 17 points along with dishing out 10 assists. Keisha Brown had 13.
Down the stretch it was the Fury who held the lead 71-68. The Stealth didnÂ’t have enough left in the tank and could only close to within one and now their record stands at 7-9.
Coach Rodney Minggia was pleased with todayÂ’s victory.
“We played big today. We were down twelve at the half and kept our composure. I thought in the first half we killed ourselves with turnovers, but in the second half we corrected it in a big way, we didn’t have any. Our defense was also really good in this one.”
At this point in the season itÂ’s pretty safe to assume that this Fury squad is rather streaky. After starting the season 0-3 they pulled out three straight victories to even up their record at 3-3. Then the Fury went on their worst skid of the year losing 6 in a row to drop to 3-9 and fall into last place. Now the Fury is back in business with their latest streak and looking to keep things going.
The Fury doesnÂ’t have long to celebrate this one. Tomorrow they head to Birmingham to face of with the Power. Game time is set for 7:30 in Birmingham.
The FuryÂ’s next home game will be a rematch with the Houston Stealth on Thursday March 27th at 7:30 at Maryville College. This will be a great chance for Tennessee fans to get a look at former University of Tennessee star Michelle Snow and WNBA All-Star Sheryl Swoopes.
