Dogs Complete 5-Goal Comeback to Win 6-5 over Sting in Pink in the Rink Game

The Sting were in town for the first and only time this season. Despite playing one of the best teams in the CHL tonight, the IceDogs were looking to get back into the win column with a statement win at home. Tonight was also the teams' 10th anniversary of our annual Pink in the Rink game! The IceDogs wore specialty pink jerseys that were all auctioned live after the game, with all proceeds being donated in support of the Canadian Cancer Society.

The game got off to a physical start, despite these two teams not being familiar with each other. The Sting drew first blood, with a shorthanded marker, but on the same powerplay, Sam Miletic evened things up with a blast from the blueline! Kirill Maksimov and Ben Jones picked up the assists on Miletic's 21st of the season. The Sting came right back to regain their lead.

In the second period, the Sting scored two consecutive goals on a man advantage to extend their lead by 3. The Sting added to their lead again in the 2nd, but Sam Miletic got the 'Dogs going in the final two minutes of the period. Milley scored his 2nd of the game right off the faceoff. Ben Jones picked up his 2nd assist of the night on Miletic's goal. The 'Dogs weren't done there. with less than a minute left, Sam Miletic rang the puck off the post, but it came straight to Kirill Makismov, who scores his team leading 26th of the season! Sammy and Akil Thomas were credited with the assists.

The IceDogs entered the 3rd period down 5-3, and hungry for more. Just over a minute into the 3rd period, Danial Singer scores our 3rd powerplay goal of the game to cut the Sting lead down to 1! Ben Jones was credited with his 3rd point of the game, while Akil Thomas picked up his 2nd. After Singers' goal, the game was dominated by the 'Dogs looking to score the equalizer. The Captain came up big in an impactful game! Johnny Corneil scored with 2 minutes remaining in the 3rd period to tie the game up at 5, scoring the 'Dogs 4th unanswered goal of the game. Ben Jones and Akil Thomas added to their point totals with another assist each.

The game remained tied at regulation, so we headed to OT. Sam Miletic scored his hattrick goal with 2 and a half minutes to go in the overtime period to lift the 'Dogs over Sarnia 6-5.
