Dion's and Isotopes Launch 16th Season of Club Read

March 4, 2019 - Pacific Coast League (PCL) - Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

ALBUQUERQUE, NM - For the 16th season, Dion's Pizza and the Albuquerque Isotopes are teaming up to promote youth literacy with the annual Club Read program.

The initiative is coming off its best year of participation since 2012 with over 4,700 first scorecards submitted and more than 36,000 books read in 2018. The incentive-based reading challenge runs March 5-July 28, encouraging preschool and elementary-age students to read.

"We're looking forward to another year of inspiring and incentivizing children in our communities to read," said Mark Herman, Dion's CEO. "With strong numbers in 2018, the popularity and excitement of Club Read is unquestionable."

Students can win prizes by completing scorecards, which are available at Albuquerque, Rio Rancho, and Santa Fe Dion's locations, select public libraries, and Isotopes Park. Each student who submits a completed scorecard will earn their first "home run" and receive a one-topping slice of pizza and a second scorecard.

Completion of a second scorecard, which must be redeemed at Isotopes Park, earns a student a new book, a ticket to an Isotopes home game, a free small drink at the game, one entry for the grand prize drawing, and a certificate signed by Orbit, the Isotopes mascot.

Shortly after the program's conclusion on July 28, four grand prize winners will be selected to win four suite-level tickets to an Isotopes home game. Winners will also have the opportunity to participate in the ceremonial first pitch, receive an autographed baseball, a customized Isotopes jersey, a booklet of Isotopes Baseball Bucks, one large Dion's pizza to enjoy during the game, and a $50.00 Dion's gift card.

"We are thrilled to continue our partnership with Dion's in Club Read," said John Traub, Isotopes General Manger. "We are proud of how this program has inspired children in the area to have a love of reading. Promoting literacy is an important part of our community outreach efforts."
