Dawes receives Brad Hornung trophy

Calgary, AB – Jeff Chynoweth, Vice President and General Manager of the Kootenay ICE Hockey Club today announced Nigel Dawes received the Brad Hornung trophy at the annual WHL Awards Luncheon in Calgary after being named the Western Hockey League's Most Sportsmanlike Player of the Year for the 2003-2004 season.

"Our organization is very proud that Nigel was named the recipient of this prestigious award. Nigel epitomizes what the Kootenay ICE organization is all about. He is a class act both on and off the ice and gives 100% all the time," stated Chynoweth.

Dawes becomes the fifth player in franchise history to win a Western Hockey League Award (Dan Blackburn – Rookie of the Year – 2000, Dan Blackburn – Most Valuable Player – Playoffs – 2000, Dan Blackburn – Goaltender of the Year – 2001, Duncan Milroy – Most Valuable Player – Playoffs – 2002).

Dawes recorded 47 goals and 70 points in 56 regular season games during the 2003-2004 regular season while recording only 31 penalty minutes.

Honorable mention goes to Tomas Fleischmann of the Moose Jaw Warriors for being named the Eastern Conference nominee.
