Calgary Stampeders News Release
Calgary Stampeders head coach John Hufnagel is pleased to announce today the signing of quarterback Dave Dickenson.
Dickenson began his Canadian Football League career with the Stamps in 1996. He played five seasons in Calgary before going to the National Football League for two years and then joining the B.C. Lions for five seasons.
"We are very excited to add Dave to the mix," said Hufnagel. "Dave is a proven veteran and will bring championship experience to our team. He is a quality quarterback and experienced football mind that will add obvious depth to our roster."
One of the most efficient passers in league history, Dickenson currently holds a number of CFL individual records and owns two Grey Cup rings - one earned as B.C.'s starter in 2006 and another as Calgary's backup in 1998. In 2000, Dickenson was named the CFL's most outstanding player and he was the West Division's most outstanding player in 2003. He also was the Grey Cup MVP in 2006.
Dickenson, 35, lives in Calgary with his wife Tammy, daughter Avery and son Cooper. His brother Craig is Calgary's special-teams co-ordinator.
"I'm excited to be back and I'm looking forward to helping this team bring a Grey Cup back to Calgary," said Dickenson. "Coming back home has always been a goal of mine and I'm definitely looking forward to it."
