Houston Dash News Release

BRIDGEVIEW, ILL. - The Houston Dash finished a three-game week with a 2-2 draw against the Chicago Red Stars this evening at Toyota Park.

Dash forward Rachel Daly gave Houston an early lead in the sixth minute after midfielder Kyah Simon found Daly in open space behind the Red Stars defense. The English international dribbled into the box and beat Red Stars goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher with a low curling shot to the far post.

Chicago tied the game in the 20th minute after Arin Gilliland won the ball at the edge of the box. The midfielder found an unmarked Sam Kerr near the penalty spot for the equalizer.

Houston regained the lead off a set piece in the 48th minute when Daly played a short pass to Simon at the top of the box. The Australian flicked the ball through to midfielder Kristie Mewis at the edge of the box and her strike beat Naeher at the far post for her first goal with the club.

Chicago equalized in the 65th minute when MF Sofia Huerta converted a penalty kick awarded to the Red Stars after a Dash defender was called for a handball inside the box.

The Dash came out pressing for an early goal from the first whistle, beginning with a cross from forward Kealia Ohai in the third minute. The captain's cross was intended for forward Nichelle Prince but Naher was able to punch the ball away before the Canadian international could make contact.

Houston returns to the road next Saturday as they face Utah Royals FC at 2:30 p.m. for the Lifetime NWSL Game of the Week. The Dash return to BBVA Compass Stadium on May 23 to host Megan Rapinoe and Seattle Reign FC.
