Altoona Curve News Release

CURVE, Pa. - The Altoona Curve fought off a late Erie surge and hung on to defeat the SeaWolves, 8-6, on Friday night at Blair County Ballpark. Jordy Mercer, Jeremy Farrell and Brad Chalk each drove in a pair of runs in the win for Altoona.

Aaron Pribanic (2-0) tossed five scoreless innings to pick up his second win of the season and the Curve (10-10) offense was in full force for the right hander. The Curve opened the scoring against Mark Sorensen (1-1) in the second inning when they scored four runs with two away. After back-to-back walks by the starter to Tony Sanchez and Kris Watts, Miles Durham doubled in a run and Brad Chalk doubled in two more to take a 3-0 lead. After a balk, Chalk scored and the Curve extended their advantage to four runs.

The Curve took an even bigger lead in the fifth inning as Brock Holt led the inning off with a single, and after a sacrifice bunt, Quincy Latimore, Mercer, Farrell and Sanchez all hit singles in succession as three runners came in to score during the inning and the Curve took a 7-0 advantage after the fifth.

The SeaWolves (9-11) began their run-scoring surge in the sixth as they scored a run off Brian Leach as a fly ball to right was lost in the lights and they added another run in the seventh on an RBI-groundout to cut the lead to 7-2.

The Curve got a run back in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI-double by Mercer, but the 8-2 game had some nervous moments in the top of the next inning. Tom Boleska relieved Leach and, after three batters, the bases were loaded with no one down. Michael Bertram hit a sacrifice fly to score a run, but the bases then were loaded once again on a walk before Boleska was lifted in favor of Noah Krol. Krol allowed a two-run double off the bat of Bryan Holaday and the lead was cut to 8-5 and another run scored on an RBI-groundout to make it 8-6. With two out and runners in scoring position, Krol would strike out Brandon Douglas to end the inning and then go on to work a perfect ninth to nail down his sixth save of the year.

With the win, the Curve are back to an even record at 10-10 and have alternated wins and losses for their last 17 games. The Curve also advance their home record to 4-2 on the season.

The Curve will look to get above .500 for the first time all season as LHP Jeff Locke (1-2) will take to the hill on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. and he will be opposed by LHP Casey Crosby (0-1). After the ballgame the Curve will light up the skies with a postgame fireworks display and exiting the ballpark, the first 3,000 fans to do so will each receive a CFL Light Bulb Kit presented by Penelec.

Game time is set for 5:30 p.m. Great seats for the ballgame are still available by calling the Curve at 877.99.Curve or by visiting the official website of the Curve www.AltoonaCurve.com. Pregame coverage on ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM and the Curve Radio Network will begin at 5 p.m.
