August 30, 2017 - Eastern League (EL1) - Altoona Curve News Release
RICHMOND, Va. -- Austin Coley dominated over seven innings and Cole Tucker came through with a pair of RBI hits as the Altoona Curve topped the Richmond Flying Squirrels, 3-1, on Tuesday night at The Diamond to lock up their third consecutive postseason appearance.
The Curve (71-63) scored three runs between the fifth and seventh inning and held off the Flying Squirrels (59-75) late in the game.
Coley (Win, 5-4) worked through seven innings without allowing a run and surrendered just four hits with one walk and matched a career high with eight strikeouts. His 3.16 ERA for the season is the fourth-best in the Eastern League.
Tucker broke a scoreless tie in the top of the fifth inning with an RBI single off of Cory Taylor (Loss, 4-11) to drive home Elvis Escobar. The knock marked Tucker's fifth go-ahead, game-winning hit for the Curve in the last 10 games.
Wyatt Mathisen added a run in the sixth inning with an RBI single and Tucker came through with another RBI hit in the top of the seventh to extend the lead to 3-0.
Yeudy Garcia (Save, 4) worked through a scoreless eighth before surrendering a single run on a groundout by Daniel Carbonell in the ninth, but stranded the tying run at the plate to close out the game.
The Curve continue the series on Wednesday night at The Diamond in Richmond. Right-hander J.T. Brubaker (7-5, 4.33) will be on the mound for the Curve, opposed by Richmond lefty Nate Reed (2-2, 7.31). First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
