Altoona Curve News Release
ALTOONA - The Binghamton Mets continued their domination against the Curve with a 6-2 win on Thursday night at Blair County Ballpark.
In a game that featured the Curve committing a season-high four errors, Altoona (36-48) was unable to even the series against the B-Mets (48-37), who grabbed three of four games. Binghamton has taken six of the eight games between the two squads in the season series.
Josh Hill (4-10), who was bidding for his first win since May 27 allowed six runs, four of which were earned on eight hits over 5 2/3 innings.
Hill allowed runs in each of his first three innings of work. Binghamton grabbed a pair in the top of the first inning, and a single run in the top of the second, before Salomon Manriquez smashed a two-run home run in the top of the fifth.
The only Curve offense came in the form of single runs each in the second and third inning. Luis Cruz, who finished the night 2-for-4 and has collected five hits in his last seven at-bats, singled home Brad Corley.
In the third, Melvin Dorta, who enjoyed a 3-for-4 night, led off the frame with a triple, before Jason Delaney's sacrifice fly brought home the Curve's second run. At that point the Curve trailed 5-2.
After Hill's exit, the Curve bullpen allowed just one hit over 3 1/3 shutout innings, but it wasn't enough. Binghamton's Salvador Aguilar (10-1) silenced the Curve bats the remainder of the night. The Eastern League All Star selection struck out a season-high seven batters over six solid innings for his league-leading tenth win of the season.
The Curve will return to action on Friday night against the Harrisburg Senators (Double-A/Washington Nationals) in the first of a four-game set. Lefty Kyle Bloom (0-4, 5.33) will get the ball for the Curve, while Harrisburg will counter with right-hander Jordan Zimmermann (2-2, 4.33)
Fans attending Friday's game will enjoy a breathtaking Fourth of July post-game fireworks show. Also after the game, kids will be able to run the bases, courtesy of Thomas Chevrolet of Bedford.
Seats for Friday's game still remain, but are going fast. Fans can lock up their tickets over the phone by calling 877-99-CURVE, online at AltoonaCurve.com or in person at the BCB box office.
