Crabs' Reichert Foils Barnstormers

Lancaster Stormers News Release
Southern Maryland's Dan Reichert has games where he can just dominate. Tuesday night's contest at Clipper Magazine Stadium was an example.
Reichert pitched eight shutout innings in a 6-0 Blue Crabs win over the host Barnstormers in front of 5,262. The effort improved the right-hander's record to 8-5 and kept Southern Maryland one game ahead of Camden in the Liberty Division race.
The former Kansas City Royal held Lancaster to six singles while walking none and striking out 11. Lancaster never advanced only one runner to second base during Reichert's stint, pushing Joe Gaetti that far on an infield single and a dribbler to the third base side of the mound in the third inning.
Gaetti and Reggie Taylor had two hits each for the Barnstormers, in each case an infield single and a flare. The hardest hit balls of the night were a pair of line drives to the outfield from Bryant Nelson.
Sean Thompson (1-5) had similar success on the strikeout front with 11 in 5 2/3 innings. However, when he wasn't ratcheting up the K count, he was in fairly steady trouble. Southern Maryland grabbed the lead in the second. Pat Osborn walked and moved to second on a single up the middle by Eric Crozier. Jason Lane singled to left to load the bases. One run scored as Travis Garcia bounced into a slick 4-6 force play on a hopper up the middle, and Kody Kirkland pushed another across with a single to left.
The lead was stretched to 3-0 in the third on singles by Matt Craig and Osborn and a double to left center by Crozier. Southern Maryland scored the final tally off Thompson in the fifth. Crozier walked with one out and stole second. Lane's grounder to short was fumbled by Nelson. Garcia drove in the run with a lined single to left.
Osborn's double inside the third base bag in the eighth, on the first pitch delivered by Charlie Weatherby in his return to Lancaster, produced the final two Southern Maryland runs.
The teams will wrap up the four-game series, and the first half for Lancaster at home, on Wednesday evening. Jose Sanchez (2-7) will work for the Barnstormers against Jarrett Santos (4-2). Game time is set for 7:00.
NOTES: The game was the first ever involving the Barnstormers where both starters reached double digits in strikeouts...There were a total of 30 strikeouts on the night...Lancaster pitching coach Danny Cox was ejected in the eighth inning when a 3-2 pitch to Craig from Austin Hinkle was ruled ball four...Jason Perry extended his hitting streak to nine when he blooped a hit to left in the fourth...Weatherby was acquired from St. George (UT) of the Golden League for future considerations...He was 2-1 with a 4.00 ERA in 16 games with the Roadrunners...Lancaster also signed LHP Adam Bostick as a free agent and traded RHP Reymond Cruz to Pittsfield (Can-Am)...C Adam Witter was placed on the disabled list, retroactive to Monday.
