Winston-Salem Dash News Release

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (August 5, 2013) - The Winston-Salem Dash collecting their league-leading 11th shutout of the campaign in a 3-0 victory over the Lynchburg Hillcats in the first of three Monday night at BB&T Ballpark.

Winston-Salem starter Jake Cose (4-4) turned in his best outing at the High-A level, tossing a career high-tying seven scoreless frames and allowing just three hits while striking out five.

In relief of Cose, the Dash (21-21, 59-53) turned to Cody Winiarski, and the righty kept Lynchburg (15-24, 51-57) off the scoreboard for the final two innings to finish off the club's 11th shutout, which is fourth-most in High-A baseball.

Winston took little time in jumping out into the lead against Hillcats starter Jarett Miller (8-7), scoring a pair in the first inning. With a man on and two out, Kevan Smith took the righty to the opposite field for his ninth homer of the campaign. With that blast, the Dash became the first CL club to reach 100 home runs.

Winston-Salem tacked on a third run in the fourth. Rangel Ravelo and Jeremy Farrell each doubled, with the latter collecting his 63rd RBI to make it 3-0.

In the fifth, Chris Curley took Miller deep for his 22nd homer of the year, breaking the tie with former Lynchburg slugger Robby Hefflinger for the Carolina League lead.

The Dash added one final run against the Hillcats' bullpen in the seventh. With the bases loaded and one out, Zach Jadofsky looked like he had induced a double play grounder, but he made a throwing error, allowing Joey DeMichele to score an unearned tally.

The Dash and Hillcats continue this three-game series Tuesday night at BB&T Ballpark. Right-hander Bryan Blough (9-8, 4.48 ERA), who leads the circuit in innings pitched, will get the nod for Winston-Salem, while Lynchburg will turn to fellow righty Williams Perez (3-1, 0.75 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 7, and coverage on wsdash.com begins at 6:45.

The Dash's six-game homestand continues Tuesday night at BB&T Ballpark. For tickets to any game on the current homestand, call (336) 714-2287 or visit wsdash.com.
