Copping Honored as Texas League Pitcher of the Week

University of Oklahoma Product is 8th Driller to be Named a Texas League Player of the Week in 2017

Tulsa, OK - The Texas League announced that Tulsa Drillers reliever Corey Copping has been honored as the Pitcher of the Week for the period of August 14 - August 20. He is the eighth Driller to be awarded one of the weekly awards this season, following in the footsteps of Matt Beaty, Erick Mejia, Jose Miguel Fernandez, Edwin Rios, Kyle Farmer, Walker Buehler and Scott Barlow who each previously received the honor.

Copping was selected for the honor after an exceptional week on the mound. The University of Oklahoma product pitched in three of the six games the Drillers played during their perfect homestand this past week, collecting saves in each of his appearances. He had a 0.00 ERA for the week and struck out 4 batters over his 3.2 innings of work while not surrendering a single hit.

For the season, Copping has a 4-2 record with a 2.89 ERA and 16 saves. He also leads both the Drillers and the Texas League in total appearances, as he has pitched in 45 games this season, and in lowest batting average against as opponents have hit just .187 against him. His 16 saves are also good for second-most in the League.
