Columbus Splits Doubleheader with Indianapolis
April 14, 2013 - International League (IL1)
Columbus Clippers News Release
Columbus split a doubleheader with Indianapolis, winning game one by a 2-1 score and losing a 5-0 affair in game two.
Indianapolis opened up the scoring with a mammoth solo homer by Brett Carroll into the Scotts Field Seats in left center.
Columbus would finally get something going in the bottom of the sixth. With a man on second and one out, Matt Carson clobbered a two run shot into the left field bleachers, giving Columbus a 2-1 lead.
Trevor Bauer (W, 1-0) pitched very well for Columbus. The #1 prospect in the Cleveland Indians farm system held Indianapolis to one run on four hits while striking out nine in six innings of work. Kris Johnson (L, 1-1) was tagged with the loss for the Indians. Preston Guilmet (3) picked up another save out of the Clippers 'pen.
Like game one, it would be the Indians drawing first blood on the scoreboard in the top of the first on a two run double by Jordy Mercer. Two more runs would cross the plate for the Indians on RBI singles by Matt Hague and Tony Sanchez during the inning. Brandon Inge would add some insurance with a solo homer in the top of the seventh.
Columbus would only manage one hit in this game as they were not able to solve the Indy trio of Brooks Brown, Ryan Reid, and Vic Black. Reid (W, 2-0) got the win for Indy. David Huff (L, 0-1) took the loss for Columbus.
Day baseball will be played at Huntington Park as the Clippers conclude their four game set with Indianapolis on Sunday. Corey Kluber (1-0, 4.50) will get the start for Columbus. The starter for Indy has yet to be determined. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 PM.
