Cole Hanson Named South Division Star of the Week

The New Mexico Ice Wolves® are proud to announce forward Cole Hanson has been named North American Hockey League South Division Star Player of the Week with forward Joey Larson named 2nd Star Player of the Week in the NAHL South Division in the final weekend of the regular season. Hanson, 20, closed out his junior career in style with one of his most productive weekends of the year as the NM Ice Wolves took two of three games in a weekend home series against South Division rival Wichita Falls Warriors. The 5'10"/175 lb. native of Grand Forks, ND, had eight points (one goal, seven assists) in three games. On Thursday, Hanson picked up two assists in a 5-3 win. On Friday, he had an assist in a 5-3 loss. On Saturday, he had a goal and four assists in a 6-3 win. For the season, Hanson finished tied for third in league scoring with 60 points in 53 games played. Cole Hanson will play for Colgate University next year in NCAA Division I Ice hockey.

Joey Larson is a 6'1"/195lb forward from Brighton, MI and played in all three games of the series against the Warriors posting four goals and three assists for seven total points over the series.

"I'm extremely happy for both Cole and Joey. They both had a great year for us during a difficult season and I'm thrilled they could finish with such success. We are excited for Cole to start his next journey at Colgate University," said New Mexico head coach Phil Fox. "We're also thrilled that Joey earned his own honors this weekend with stellar performances including an impressive four goals in three games. Joey will decide shortly whether he will go to Northern Michigan University next season or return for one more year as an NM Ice Wolves leader."

Fresh off a big 6-3 win Saturday in Albuquerque, NM the NM Ice Wolves wrapped their 2020-2021 season winning two games out of a three game series. The team played most of its games on the road this season in Texas and Louisiana due to strict public health guidelines in New Mexico that prohibited competition and travel for much of the year. NM Ice Wolves fans can expect a normal season for 2021-2022 with all home games at Outpost Ice Arenas in Albuquerque, NM.
