Chris Pettit, Brooks Brown Fall League Players-of-the-Week

Phoenix, Arizona - Scottsdale Scorpions outfelder Chris Pettit (LAA) and Phoenix Desert Dogs right-handed starting pitcher Brooks Brown (ARI) are the Arizona Fall League's week fve player-of-the-week and pitcher-of-the-week, respectively.

Pettit - Pettit hit .667 (14-21) last week while appearing in all six Scorpions games, leading the Fall League in hits (14), doubles (4), and on-base percentage (.708) while tying for third in runs scored (7) for the week. He also drove in two runs.

The Angels' prospect is tied for the league lead in hits (37) and leads in doubles (10).

Drafted by the Angels in the 19th round (582nd overall) of the 2006 draft from Loyola Marymount University, the 6-0, 190-pound Pettit hit .248 with 12 doubles, 2 triples, 6 home runs, and 26 RBI for Double-A Arkansas in 2008.

The 24-year-old Pasadena, California native is a .309 hitter in three minor- league seasons.

Others receiving votes were Mesa Solar Sox infelder Jeff Larish (DET) and three Peoria Saguaros teammates - infelder Gordon Beckham (CWS), infelder Daniel Murphy, and frst baseman Bill Rhinehart.

Brown - The Diamondbacks' prospect beat the Surprise Rafters in his only start last week for the frst-place Desert Dogs, striking out four in fve innings.

One of three Desert Dog starters with two wins, Brown has a 2-2 record and 4.15 ERA in fve appearances (all starts). He has not allowed a home run in 17.1 innings. He has struck out 13 against nine walks.

In 2008, Brown was 6-15 with a 4.18 ERA for Double-A Mobile. In three minor-league seasons, Brown has a 16-24 composite record and 3.66 ERA.

The 6-3, 210-pound native of Statesboro, Georgia was selected by Arizona 34th overall as a compensatory pick between the frst and second rounds in the 2006 amateur draft.

The former University of Georgia hurler was a college teammate of Beckham, a 2008 frst-round draft choice.

Other hurlers receiving consideration for pitcher-of-the-week were Peoria Javelinas right-hander Jeff Marquez (NYY), Surprise Rafters right-hander Josh Tomlin (CLE), and two past winners, Mesa Solar Sox right-hander Tommy Hanson and Phoenix Desert Dogs right-hander Jeff Manship.

Arizona Fall League - The Arizona Fall League, known throughout professional baseball as a "fnishing school" for Major League Baseball's elite prospects, is a six-team league, owned and operated by Major League Baseball, that plays six days per week (Monday-Saturday) in fve Cactus League stadiums (Mesa, Peoria, Phoenix, Scottsdale, Surprise) in the Phoenix metropolitan area. This year's schedule concludes with a championship game on Saturday, November 22 at Scottsdale Stadium.
