Choices for Champions Promotes Anti-Bullying Message

INDIANAPOLIS - When the Indiana Fever hosts Choices for Champions on Thursday, Aug. 25, the theme of the event for 5th to 9th grade students will be an anti-bullying message and putting up a best defense against bullying within schools. Other topics include respect, making healthy choices, Internet safety and "it's ok to be different."
Fever players Tamika Catchings and Shyra Ely will take part in the two-hour seminar that begins at 10:00 a.m. at Conseco Fieldhouse. Approximately 1,500 to 2,000 youngsters are expected to participate, primarily from IPS and charter schools.
The event is in its third year and, this year, serves as an anti-bullying program. Attending students and teachers will hear from various speakers that represent local organizations and law enforcement dedicated to these vital issues surrounding youth. An agenda is below:

10:05 a.m. RESPECT: GIVE IT! GET IT! - Presented by Indiana's Choose Respect representative, Katie O'Brien, INCASA Director of Prevention Education
10:25 a.m. It's Okay to Be Different - Presented by Olivia Rusk, 14 year old who has hair loss as a result of Alopecia
10:45 a.m. Music, T-shirt toss/ mini ball toss and stretch
10:50 a.m. The Digital Demon - Presented by teens Garrett Godsey and Brianna Caprice, Get Real Inc.
11:05 a.m. Internet Safety Do's and Don'ts - Presented by Officer Dan Claassen, My Cyber Guardian
11:20 a.m. Fever players arrive by tossing t-shirts and mini-balls
11:25 a.m. Defense Against Bullying - Indiana Fever Q&A: - Special Guests: Tamika Catchings and Shyra Ely
11:45 a.m. Event ends
A WNBA playoff participant in six straight seasons and seven times since 2002, the Eastern Conference-leading Indiana Fever continues its 12th season by hosting Back to School Night presented by Ivy Tech Community College when the Fever hosts the Atlanta Dream (7:00 p.m.).
