Chivas USA Sign Peruvian Midfielder Carlo Chueca

CARSON, Calif. (Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2013) - Chivas USA today announced the signing of Peruvian midfielder Carlo Chueca from Belgium side R.A.E.C. Mons. Born in Lima, Peru, the former Chivas USA Youth Academy product is set to join the Red-and-White upon receipt of his P-1 Visa. Per club and Major League Soccer policy, terms of the agreement will not be disclosed.

As a member of the Rojiblancos' Academy beginning at the age of 12, Chueca ventured to Belgium in 2009 to join prominent European club R.S.C. Anderlecht . It was there at the age of 16 where the attacking midfielder played with the Belgium club's Reserves before moving on to sign with Mons.

During his stint with Mons, the Peruvian national was coached and developed by four-time World Cup veteran and Belgium midfielder Enzo Scifo, one of the country's most celebrated players. In his final two seasons with Mons, Chueca also participated with the team's Reserves.

During his stint in European soccer, the 20-year-old left-footed attacker stood out with his high performance on the attacking end and his possession skills. Chueca is also known for his talents on set pieces, as he demonstrates a powerful and accurate strike. In addition, Chivas' new signing has the ability to distribute the ball from long distances and change the run of play across the field.

Upon receipt of his P-1 Visa, Chueca will be eligible to be called up to the club's 18-man roster as they travel to face Western Conference rival Vancouver Whitecaps FC at BC Place on Sunday, Sept. 1, starting at 4 p.m. (PT).
