Chiefs Roar Back for Comeback Win

Moosic, PA (April 11, 2015) - The Syracuse Chiefs, Triple-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, came from behind to beat the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, 4-2, Saturday afternoon at PNC Field. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre led by as much as 2-0 and held a 2-1 edge into the eighth, where Syracuse put together a three-run rally to take the lead.

Derrick Robinson started the Chiefs' eighth inning by reaching on a bunt single off Jacob Lindgren. Emmanuel Burriss then reached on an error on Rob Refsnyder after a grounder slipped under the RailRider second baseman's glove to put two on. Tony Gwynn, Jr.'s successful sacrifice bunt put runners on second and third with one out. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre opted to go to the bullpen and turned to right-hander Jose Ramirez. Ramirez surrendered an RBI double to Mark Minicozzi, which brought home the tying run. Ramirez intentionally walked Kila Ka'aihue to reload the bases. After a force-out at home, Ramirez hit Caleb Ramsey with a pitch to bring in the go-ahead run. A batter later, Dan Butler singled home Ka'aihue to give Syracuse a two-run edge.

Rafael Martin came in from there, and the dominant Syracuse closer shut down Scranton/Wilkes-Barre with two scoreless innings for the save. Rich Hill was credited with the win after one inning of shutout ball out of the bullpen. Lindgren was saddled with the loss.

The rally came after three unearned runs were scored between the bottom of the fourth and top of the fifth. Rob Segedin reached first with one out in the fourth on an error by Burriss at shortstop. Chiefs starter Taylor Hill then walked Cole Figueroa to put two men on. Jonathan Galvez then doubled home the opening run of the game to give the RailRiders a 1-0 edge. A batter later, Figueroa scored on a groundout by Ben Gamel to make it 2-0.

Syracuse's first run came in the fifth. Caleb Ramsey led off the fifth with a single and stole second. With two outs, Derrick Robinson hit a grounder to short. The throw from Figueroa sailed high, going down as an error and allowing Ramsey to score to cut the lead to 2-1.

Syracuse looks to win the series tomorrow afternoon in the final game of the four-game set. Scott McGregor gets the ball for the Chiefs opposite Chase Whitley for the RailRiders. Game time is slated for 1:05 p.m.
