York Revolution News Release

Matt Chico tossed seven superb innings as the York Revolution grabbed a 6-0 shutout win over the Somerset Patriots in front of 4,805 fans at Sovereign Bank Stadium on Tuesday evening. The Revs will go for the series win in Wednesday's 4th of July rubber match at 6:30 p.m., featuring an Independence Day postgame fireworks show.

Of Chico's 21 outs, 15 came on ground balls. He allowed only four hits, all singles, and walked just two while striking out three. Only two runners reached scoring position all night when a single and walk were followed by a sacrifice bunt in the fifth, but Chico struck out Dan Hennigan looking to end Somerset's only threat against the lefty.

After leaving the bases loaded in the first, the Revs went to work offensively scoring two runs in each of the next three innings. Salvador Paniagua and Chris Nowak blasted two-run homers to left field in the second and third innings respectively. The Revs then manufactured two more in the fourth taking advantage of a pair of leadoff walks by Patriots starter Roy Merritt. Scott Grimes' sacrifice bunt advanced both runners, setting the table for Liu Rodriguez who grounded an RBI single through the left side of the drawn-in infield, and Ramon Castro who picked up his league-leading 49th RBI on a sacrifice fly to right.

Merritt (5-2) was charged with the loss, allowing six runs on seven hits in four innings. He had only allowed three runs combined over his previous four starts.

Chico (1-1) earned his first win, as relievers Stephen Penney and Ricardo Gomez each fired scoreless frames to cap the combined shutout, the Revs' fifth of the season and third against Somerset, who they are now 6-3 against in the season series.

Notes: Nowak's homer tied him with Andres Perez for the team lead with 11, one shy of a Revs record for a first half. The Revs are now 25-15 when hitting a home run, 16-7 when hitting multiple long balls. They lead the league with 77 home runs on the season. Perez (2-for-4) extended his hitting streak to 10 consecutive games, the longest active streak on the team, matching his longest of the season. York's Corey Thurman (7-1, 4.78) will face Somerset's Sean Green, making his debut start, on Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m. It is Armed Forces Night, with a game-worn camo jersey and cap silent auction presented by BAE Systems. The first 1,000 fans receive a Revs camo cap giveaway presented by St. Onge. The Spring Garden Band will perform, and the night will conclude with Postgame Fireworks presented by Sprint and media sponsor FlipSide. Tickets are available at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS and in-person at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office.
