Ottawa 67's News Release

OTTAWA - The Ottawa 67's have hired Charlie McTavish as the team's goaltending coach, the club announced Thursday.

McTavish will fill the role recently vacated by Andy Chiodo, who was hired by the Pittsburgh Penguins organization in June.

McTavish's experience coaching goalies has involved players of all ages and has taken him overseas. The owner and director of Complete Goaltending Development was hired by the Polish Ice hockey Federation to implement a national development plan in 2017, followed by a coaching stint in Denmark in 2017-2018.

"Charlie is an accomplished goaltending coach with extensive experience coaching both junior and professional goaltenders'', said General Manager James Boyd. ''Charlie is a great fit for our coaching department and our goaltenders will appreciate his intensity and attention to detail."

McTavish holds his Hockey Canada Level 1 and 2 certification and is currently the High Performance Coach with Hockey Eastern Ontario. McTavish was also involved in coaching in the CCHL for 10 years with Smith Falls and Pembroke. On top of all this experience, McTavish has worked directly with the Ottawa Senators Development Camp, with the University of Ottawa and is also the lead goaltending skills coach for Peak Centre Academy in Ottawa. In total, McTavish has been consulting with teams and associations in the Ottawa area for 14 years.

67's training camp gets underway on August 27, which will be McTavish's first opportunity to work with the team's goaltenders. The Barber Poles first pre-season contest is set for August 31 when the team travels to Sudbury to face the Wolves. The 67's open their 2018-2019 home schedule Friday, September 21 when they host the Mississauga Steelheads at the Arena at TD Place.
